The reason why the Toshiba SW 1000 has a mid-range sound output is because it was designed specifically as an add-on to an existing sound output device such as a television or a computer monitor. Many televisions and computer monitors have very low bass levels, so the Toshiba SW 1000 would be a great add-on for such televisions and monitors.

The Toshiba SW 1000 Subwoofer is unique looking in the way that most people think of subwoofers as being box shaped, which in fact is true for most sub woofers. The SW 1000 looks rather like a closed laptop and may fool some people into thinking it is.
This particular subwoofer measures at 67 cm in length, 31 cm in width,7 cm in depth and it weighs a quite considerable 5.2 kg. Taking all the measurements into account you can see that this particular subwoofer is quite large considering its sound output. But, then again most subwoofers are quite large.
The subwoofer produces a 35 W (Watt) RMS amplifier output. RMS power is the amount of continuous power, which is measured in Watts. The level of RMS or continuous power determines how loud and how clean the sound output is from a sub woofer.
The 35 Watts of RMS power means that this particular sub woofer is in the bottom end of sub woofer power ratings. However, even though it does not have a very high RMS power rating it still produces a fairly clean output of a maximum of approximately 70 decibels.
The 70 decibels produced by the sub woofer is equivalent to an average radio output and regular street noise. So this basically means that the sound output is not very immense and not near loud enough to damage your ears. A sound output of 110 decibels or more would be required to cause deafening.
The subwoofer consists of a 4" bass drive speaker in a transmission line cabinet. The 4" bass driver speaker is obviously the output device, and the transmission line cabinet is basically the enclosure for the loudspeaker.
The enclosure is designed as a cabinet thus its name, the reason for this is to prevent out of phase (bad) sound waves produced by the back side of the subwoofer from combining with the in-phase (good) sound waves from the front of the speaker. If the bad and good sound of the subwoofer were to collide then the sound output would not be very good, bad sound would deem the subwoofer as being very inefficient.
There is no innefficiency in the Toshiba SW 1000 due to the cabinet enclosure, which means that the sound output is very clean and of a good quality even though it is not very loud. As i said before this particular subwoofer is intended as an add-on rather than a main stand-alone output system.
The Toshiba SW 1000 works at a frequency of 38 Hz - 130 Hz, which is the regular frequency for most sub woofers. The 38 Hz - 130 Hz is a low range operating frequency. A healthy person is able to hear 20 Hz up to 20,000 Hz. The low frequency range means that the sound output will be deep, therefore producing a bass sound output which can be heard by virtually everyone.
Overall the Toshiba SW 1000 is a stylish piece of kit in my opinion. It would look good amongst most new televisions or computer monitors as the design is very unique as well as being very simple. You could purchase the Toshiba SW 1000 for as little as £60, or even cheaper from Ebay. The downsides to this subwoofer are that the sound output is not very considerable and that there are many competitors.
However, I would still recommend this subwoofer as it would be a unique and very stylish add-on to a top of the range TV or monitor. Even though the sound output is not very significant it is still very clean and consistent, it would be perfect for customers looking for a fairly quiet and clean sound output.
Thanks for reading my review on the Toshiba SW 1000.
