Advantages: Quality is reasonably good Disadvantages: major defect in many models
...I own a toshiba laptop and I know several people who do too.
In general, toshiba laptops are among the best laptops out there. There is a big problem with them though. After about 5 months, the computer faces a total shut down for no reason, for example the computer will just die and you will have to turn it back on again. Similarly, there is a problem with the power supply in that the power supply goes randomly too. What you have to do is take the plug out, wait 10 seconds and put it back in. Now you're probably thinking this is only happening to my toshiba, but no! Its happening to my friend's toshiba's too.... and the worrying thing is that they have different models, and newer models! so before you decide to buy a toshiba laptop make sure you get it insured, or buy another company, because this bug is extremely frustrating!...

Advantages: wow what a looker! nice bright big screen. Disadvantages: have had trouble with program buttons and dvd with little after sales care
...Wow what a sight, one of the best looking laptops in my opinion. Not too heavy, nice and compact, lovely big bright 14.1" screen.
The 1.1 celron processor is adequate and the 256mb ram is enough for most people. More sockets and connectors on the back of the machine than you can dream.
I really, really like this laptop BUT!! i have had a couple of niggling problems with it.
the multimedia buttons at the bottom of the laptop give it a lovely look but a bit annoying if you touch by accident.
the quick access program buttons at the top which are placed next to the power button seem to have stopped working altogether.
the dvd/cdrw is great to have but i have never figured out how to stop the dvd having inteference/lines across the picture and have never seen it work without this interference even when using the factory reinstall disc...

...solution is to prop up the laptop so that the underside vent can suck enough cool air into the casing. I routinely prop up my laptop with a book. Its very effective but obviously not ideal!
In all other respects the machine is solid and reliable.

** 4th edit/update - January 25th 08 - IMPORTANT - Yup, here I am again! ok I feel its only fair to add this... the laptop became unstable within Vista *again* earlier this week. While I was trying to upload an image to Photobucket, it came up with a... more
I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have more
The Dell D series of laptops came out in 2003 to replace the C series laptops (how did they come up with such a catchy name?). The main ranges are the D400, D600 and D800 spot the pattern yet. The D600 is the middle of the range in terms of size, weight more
