But, we have since passed all that and look what results the consumeristic public are now getting.
We have super thin laptops that are like a strand of hair on the desk and that can do 0-60 in 2 seconds, this is where we are now.

This seemed like a top of the range laptop at the time and still is I believe. Ok, so this Toshiba Satellite A210-19T comes with an ordinary 15.4 inch screen which is the better out of the two options (15.4 and 17 inch) as it is a lot more portable when travelling either by train, car, plane. There are also plenty of laptop cases for this size making it ideal for frequent traveller. There is also the different options to set how much power you want to use, for example, you can select 'Performance' for when you are plugged in and have the best performance of the laptop. 'Balanced' for when you want a bit of performance but want to conserve a bit of the battery life too, or the 'Power Saver' option which runs at the slower end of the laptop capabilities but saves your battery life considerably compared to the other two options.
My laptop came with Windows Vista Home Premium, which is great and the laptop seems to cope with this power consuming operating system. But in all seriousness, it really does cope and this laptop boasts the 2GB RAM to do so, this laptop takes Windows Vista like a duck takes to water. Vista Home Premium on this laptop is brilliant, but Vista is another review in itself I think.
My laptop has the AMD Athlon 64 x 2 TK-57 1.9GHz processor whatever that means but it don't half seem pretty cool to name something and it seems pretty cool being in my laptop as my laptop is super quick with applications which I believe the 2GB also helps towards, so with the marriage of the 2GB and the processor (as named above) seems like the happy couple that will love each other for life.
For this laptop I also purchased the Microsoft Office Home and Student pack and loaded it on my machine. In my opinion, the software runs smoothly on the laptop which makes this laptop ideal for the home, student or businessman. It’s an all round performer with the speed of a runner and the muscle of a weightlifter. It packs one hell of a punch when you use this laptop and you shall not be disappointed.
The price for this laptop was/is quite reasonably compared with other laptops on the shelves at the time however they have become a lot cheaper in recent years I have noticed which makes it even more of a bargain.
There is also the issue of the brand, Toshiba is a leading electronics manufacturer of this product and have been around for years so you know you are getting a top of the range laptop that also looks good with the black outside, and when you open, you have the silver keyboard area with the black monitor frame.
You see, whilst I have been writing this via Ciao then Microsoft word, I have also been playing PKR and my laptop is running fine, I have not disconnected from PKR once and PKR runs really smooth. Therefore, to be able to run the internet, PKR and Word must take its toll on the laptop and its still running fine with no hiccups.
Its simple to set up and run too and when you start using, there is a sticker advising you of what is available on the machine and how it helps you. However, I took my sticker off and so I cannot tell you guys what it says, sorry.
There are 4 USB slots so you can run many things from it, e.g. printer, optical mouse, charge the camcorder etc.
There is an SD Card slot too, so you can transfer all of your photos from the camera straight onto the hard disk.
The is the common LAN slot too.
A DVD player and re-writer.
One of those phone cable sockets too is included.
A slot for the laptop network cards.
Built in WiFi. Great for on the move.
PS/2 socket for some mouses and external keyboards.
The sound quality is very good and it can get quite loud, but there is the option to mute certain applications and listen to one application or blast all off at the same time.
The memory capability of this laptop is a good sized 120GB Hard Drive which is ideal for the ordinary user which leaves plenty of space to store videos, photos, files and extra software.
There is also another cable socket that is a small box shape - I think its a camera cable slot.
Concluding, this laptop is ideal for home or business use and has the ability to perform and rises to the occasion of its users needs.
Advantages: Powerful, fast, quiet, good gaming Disadvantages: Short battery 1 hour and a bit normally
...reasonable price (100 pounds UNDER toshiba website RRP at the time i love loss leaders :D )
The machine is smooth, and fast, and with service pack 1 installed the webcam is now reliable!!!
The integrated webcam is perfectly usable in most conditions however in low light the picture can look noisy (grainy).
The integrated speakers are high quality and do not buzz even at very high volumes.
The screen is very clear and clean, infact my friend who ... ...no major obstacles to this, toshiba provide drivers on their website for the major components, the webcam in fact doesn't even need a driver for XP weirdly enough.
Gaming is quite good on this laptop, with the orange box and quake 4 performing superbly :) crysis runs at medium settings playably, however in heavier scenes you may wish to lower the settings a little, however crysis is a hugely demanding game and as laptops aren't really designed for ...

Advantages: good value, long battery life, plenty of USB slots,SD Card slot, easy to setup Disadvantages: overheats, struggles with games,Vista 32bit (makes it unstable), better models available
I own several Toshiba Laptops and its the worst of the bunch. I find it gets too hot compared to the other models I have. The Vista that come with it I would have rather not had as I find the machine struggles with it due to its limitations. the 2gb of memory isnt enough to deal with Vista aswell as the fact the processor isnt used properly because its the wrong version (32bit instead of 64bit). It is not a gaming machine but find it handles photography ... ...on use as an office machine. The screen is good quality aswell as the general build quality. The built in SD Card slot is handy although find it gets too hot. It actually melted the glue inside one of my cards. Review of Toshiba Satellite A210
Advantages: Nice looking, AMD Turion 64 X2 1.9 ghz Disadvantages: Shared graphics could be better or have dedicated graphics
This laptop features a dual AMD Turion 64 1.9ghz processor and 2gb of Ram which was one of the biggest draws to this product for me. There is a 160gb hard drive. It also has an ample ATI Radeon graphics cards which seems to be able to handle photos and videos great! I have attempted to run a '3D intensive' game however and unfortunately it did not play as well as I would expect from a desktop. The case is a nice shiny black colour and looks really ... ...has a great resolution. When plugged in, the screen becomes slightly brighter (for powersaving I guess). The laptop comes with built in wireless and wired network adaptors so can quickly and easily be added to an existing network. I have found surfing times to be amazingly quick, even large searches in ebay appear almost instantly. The keys/keyboard do actually seem a little 'cheap' but the overall feel is more than acceptable. There are 4 USB ports ...

Quick review of Toshiba Satellite A210
Very nice laptop. Sleek styling and pleasing curves. The screen is crisp and attractive. Runs excellently, as expected, and proves to be very fast. All in all, it is a pleasant computer to deal with. My only gripe is the finger print scanner. It is definitely functional, but sometimes it is more practical to simply enter in a password. I'd say the scanner works 4/5 times when I use it. ...

Advantages: fast and light Disadvantages: can be uncomfortable for long periods
i recieved this computer as a replacement product for a hewlett packard which was stolen. Having looked around at all the possibilities this computer seemed to suit my needs best. i had a quick play with it in the shop to see if the keyboaad suited , which it did. However when at home siiting on the sofa with it it quickly becomes uncomfortable because of the sharp edge at ther bottom of the keyborad. The light colour keys look good but quickly become ... ...to get used to having a flat pad instead of a tracker ball mouse although i do sometimes click on it by mistake. I have never seen or used a Toshiba AMD based laptop that was better than this particular piece of kit
This is definately a budget machine which is a perfect desktop replacement with a sleek design and attractive display that would appeal.
Pros: Broad, bright display; comfortable keyboard, new measures that Toshiba has taken to insure quality and the look
Cons: Unimpressive battery life; glossy screen finish produces reflections;
Verdict: The inexpensive ToshibaSatellite Pro A210-1B1 laptop offers enough features and performance oomph for basic business tasks, but its AMD processor may disappoint hard-core multitaskers. Does not over warm up so thats good news for travellers like myself. Is very good value for money, looking at prices of different stores like Technoworld (by now you should all know it is my ...
Advantages: Sturdy, practical, does its job well. Disadvantages: Not a good entertainment centre, terrible battery life.
This was my first ever laptop and it's good value for money. Before buying, I spoke to someone I know who repairs laptops and he told me Toshiba is the one brand he never sees being returned.
There's not lots of features although it comes with Premium Home Vista as opposed to Basic which some laptops in the same price bracket have instead of it.
Battery life is appalling, about an hour if you do not plug it in, and this is very disappointing. On the plus side, it is very hardy as I have bashed it around and dropped it being clumsy and nothing is broken!!
The DVD player does not always work so well either at times and fails to play. ...
Advantages: Price, Performance, Style, Fast, Updated, Many Features, Sleek, Light, Great speakers, Great disk storage Disadvantages: Battery Life, Not the best for gaming, Vista slows processing speed
This notebook has some very nice features considering its budget price. It comes standard with 2Gb of DDR2 SDRAM which I thought was nice. Windows Vista requires a minimum of 1Gb to operate normally. Seeing how this notebook has 2gigs, there is plenty of extra memory to run multiple programs at once. If you shop around a little bit you might notice that other laptops in the same price range as this one usually come standard with 1Gb. The hard drive is 160Gb large so some my feel its on the small side. I use this laptop mainly for school and office work so I doubt I would ever completely use up all that hard drive space. If I did I would go the route of an external hard drive anyways. The display is very bright and clear, and the laptop is very stylish with its dark blue cover and bold Toshiba logo. I would seriously suggest this laptop ...
