Toshiba also squeeze in your standard bundled software, which is nothing spectacular - a trial copy of Norton Antivirus and a networking program which displays a neat little radar of nearby networks are the only programs of note. I've been a long-time PC user (and something of a fanatic to tell the truth), and this P100 is the first laptop I have ever purchased. So, without further adieu, let me dispel the myth of Toshiba's poor reputation.
Firstly, mine had a fault straight out of the box and refused to start up, so it was promptly shipped back to Toshiba for repairs. It was a mere six days before it was returned to my doorstep by courier, fully functional and, unexpectedly, it had been cleaned and polished. I booted up successfully and happily for the first time to see what I'd been waiting for. The laptop comes equipped with the Vista Home Premium operating system, which is the current creme de la creme of operating systems. Toshiba also squeeze in your standard bundled software, which is nothing spectacular - a trial copy of Norton Antivirus and a networking program which displays a neat little radar of nearby networks are the only programs of note. Don't be put off, as most manufacturers are substandard in supplying quality sofware, and the best applications are available free on the internet (download.com, anyone?).
Despite it's average processing power and graphic capabilities, this laptop works a real treat for all but the most hardcore of computer users. It is quick to start applications, videos and DVDs can be run beautifully, and browsing several websites whilst listening to music can be done without any slowdowns or strains on the system. If you were worried about Vista being slow on this laptop's specification, don't be - it's as smooth as butter, and there are ample of nice little Windows Aero effects catered for.
Obviously, the likes of gamers and graphic designers won't be best pleased with this system. The Intel GMA graphics system is nowhere near having the capabilities of running modern games, and the overall system setup is not ideal for intensive activities such as video-editting and the likes. It will give it a fair old go, but performance will be below par and generally rotten.
Nonetheless, casual users will be in heaven with this laptop. It has a card reader for your digital camera photos to be plugged in directly, brilliant wireless and wired network capabilities, heavenly sound if you buy some quality speakers or headphones, and even a dial-up modem if you're not one to go broadband. But with websites such as Laptops Direct (google it!) offering this brilliant laptop at a very reasonable price, you've no excuse not to have the leftover money for broadband.
Advantages: Screen Size, Nvidia Graphics Disadvantages: Not really Vista ready, build quality questionable
Ive had this laptop since September 2006, great specs for an XP machine, but no way ready for Vista.
Build quality is fairly unsatisfactory on mine, battery has never worked and attempts of repair are met with sending them the laptop for uo to 4 weeks.
Screen size is lovely and the 17" really makes a difference, its very pleasant to work with and can handle a nice range of resolutions.
graphics card is mid range for what the laptop is really marketed ... ...laptop if you are looking for a cheaper Gaming laptop.
Hard disk on mine leaves a little to be desired at only 60gb but i believe some of the newer models now ship with a 100gb hard drive - but in these the graphics card has been sacrificed which in my opinion is one of the redeeming features of this laptop.
For your average user the 1.6ghz Centrino Duo is ample, but not really suited to higher end stuff like photo editting
The memory at 1gb is ...

Advantages: powerful, Vista Home Premium Disadvantages: 4200 rpm harddrive, unidentify Geforce 7900 card, 533 bus Ram
...most powerful gaming laptop of Toshiba UK.
Toshiba Satellite P100-286 is the replacement of its first gen : P100-347.
Both have configuration, P100-286 doesn't have any improvement in hardware. However, updated with a new BIOS and new OS : Windows Vista Home Premium. The OS seems to work fine, sometimes there're still several bugs but they can easily fixed by updating on Microsoft website regularly.
Being on the top of the line of Toshiba Gaming ... ...is a bit strange when Toshiba made such a powerful laptop and gave it a 4200 rpm hard drive.
Graphic : Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 with 512 Mb of GDDR can impress any gamer. However Toshiba doesn't mention about its version, 512Mb 7900 GS or 512Mb 7900 GTX, so it will be a bit difficult in comparing with other systems.
However, a 17" wide screen WXGA 1440x900 will make the Grapphic Card fly as the resolution is not so high, this means that there's only ...

Recently upgraded from a Toshiba Satellite 2450 so slightly biased in favour of the brand which I've found to be robust and reliable. This baby is cuter in terms of the graphic capability especially with the 17" trubrite screen which gives a wonderfully clean image - definitely it's biggest selling point. It also has the DVD RW capability plus WiFi which are essential upgrade features. On the matter of upgrades, I like the fact that you can access ... ...complex fiddle with keyboards to reach the RAM chips. Speaking of keyboards, this is my one gripe with the Pro. The keyboard's a bit tighter and I find it too easy to hit the up key instead of the Right shift key which is intently irritating. It's also not the most portable of notebooks given it's 3.2kg weight. However, this is offset for me by the larger size screen so, all in all, a solid buy and good value for money. ...

Quick review of Toshiba Satellite P100-347
Excellent choice in the 17" laptops. This is a great laptop for watching movies and playing games with a crystal clear screen and excellent harmon kardon speakers. It has a good Nvidia Geforce graphics gard so it's more than capable running games.
This laptop is powerful and the keyboard is very convenient with a numpad. The only downside for me is it's battery life. It has 17"screen so it only lasts about 1 and half hour at average, you might extend it with lower brightness and less performance.
But all in all, a great 17" laptop which is fit for school, business, fun and play. You decide... ...

...setting up was easy. Toshiba have a fantastic after sales and supprt team and have been really helpful when i called them. Another great feature is that it doesn't crash on me if i have more than one application open as previously used laptops have. The price of this laptop was very competative, and you really do get value for money. I wish i had bought this one a long time ago! ...
