Hi. I'm a 34 year old guy from Bedfordshire. I run my own business from home and am currently addicted to Ciao! I love my cars, mountain biking and music. I'm engaged and have two stepkids and a dog. That's me in a nutshell.

This is my second Toshiba Satellite. Until recently I have been using a slightly dated but very effective Toshiba Satellite L10-114. Having recently purchased this new one though, I have to say there is a substantial improvement over my old lap top.
I run my own business from home and my lap top is my life line and main source of income so it always has to be Toshiba for me. They are so reliable and trustworthy that I will not risk any other make now.
The L40-12T is simply a stunning looking machine and creates an instant wow factor - key when using it in front of clients at presentations etc. It looks like a far more expensive machine than it really is. This is sadly quite key in such a material world.
The resolution of the screen is of the highest order in my opinion. For some reason - and there may be a technical reason for this - the screen does not attract dust or marks as much as the older model. Also, sunlight does not seem to reflect as badly. I am not a technical person as you can undoubtedly tell....I'm sure someone who is can shed some light on this aspect for you. Pardon the pun.
In terms of usability, well it's early days for me still but the first impressions are certainly good. Some say one laptop is very much like any other but there is something very user friendly about Toshiba's products that has helped me come back again and again. The back up and training info/manuals are very useful and any problems can usually be ironed very easily at home without needing to call the helpline.
The battery life and charging times are both excellent. I regularly run large powerpoint presentations from the lap top and they tend to run the battery down very quickly. No such problems with this one.
The machine is relatively quiet when running and is easy to get to grips with.
It's light to carry and although I sometimes find the lap top mouse sensor to be a bit TOO sensitive, I can not yet find any reason not to heartily recommend this product. If you require a bullet proof notebook that's easy to use, doesn't need constant recharging or shoulder muscles of steel to carry, this is the one for you.
I apologise that this is not a hugely technical review. In my experience, most people who use lap tops are like me....not technically minded. They just want a machine that works and works well without problems. I have therefore reviewed it this way - the only way I can.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
i agree most people that are not technically do just want something that works well. nice review

Nice review, having been a laptop user for many years there are some areas which I would have wanted to read from your review. These are is it a noisy machine, does it get very hot, what is the connectivity like and how does it run under pressure as it number of applications. But that is just me, and I am sure someone else may want to know other things.
