The speakers, keyboard, pointing devices (2 of them), and power button are well located and the indicator lights on the front are extremely useful for determining what mode the lap top is in (ie. wirelesss mode, whether the battery is charging, whether the AC power is connected) after you've worked out what each light is for.
The notebook's biggest strength is it's power. It is a large hard drive (60GB), high amount of RAM (512MB) which means you can multitask and good quality sound and video. The Intel Centrino 1.7GHz processor is equivilent to the speed of a 2.5 to 3 GHz desk top computer. Extremely fast.
The Centrino processor also allows for longer battery life; 5-6 hours, about as long as you'll find on the best of notebooks these days.
One low point about this notebook is it's weight, it is rather heavy so it's not quite as portable as some of the other notebooks which you can throw around but it is still fairly portable. No big problems there. Although it is quite thin, It is also fairly large in size due to the very large screen.
You do pay a premium for Toshiba products but in return you get a product which is of high quality, durable and reliable. If you need reliability, go for Toshiba, otherwise you is better value to go for some of the less expensive brands.
The Tecra S1 is Toshiba's top of the line notebook so you'll pay more for it but if this is what you need it's well worth it! I've had it for 3 months and it's been perfect in every way. The only improvement I could think of would be for it to be lighter.
Advantages: Light, versatile, packed with features Disadvantages: It's still a laptop

To date, I've had no problems with my Tecra M2. If servicing were necessary, it would be coordinated by my company's IT service. But if there are problems, the IT folks won't hesitate to tap the 3-year warranty for parts and labor. The battery has a 1-year warranty.
