Farewell chums... Our reviews will hopefully help consumers unless they take down the site completely... Perhaps one day someone will recognise the hard work we've done and come up with a better way to utilise it than the French ;) ta ta

Toshiba - USB flash drive - 64 GB

I used to rearrange some of the letters in 'ToSHIba'...

I never would've thought I'd be giving a Toshiba product a 5* review! Ever since my Toshiba laptop packed up in the space of a year all those years ago, I said to myself I'll never purchase another from the Japanese conglomerate. However, needs must and I found myself eyeing up their brand of USBs on Amazon. The reasons being they had a hole for key rings, offered several sizes, had slick metal designs and were the only ones (in my price range) to be a well known manufacturer. The current stock image Ciao is using shows how long these have been going on for as that thing looks like a refill for a stapler or a miniature window and blinds. It's full name is TransMemory-EX II which is pricier and faster but seeing as the title doesn't differentiate that... Regardless, the product still fits the description. It's currently available online for £13.80 with free delivery (Amazon) with a choice of 4 designs (this looks the best!) 5 capacities (8, 16, 32, 64 & 128GB) and 8 colours so spoilt for choice. Bear in mind, the colours often change the design as do some sizes.

Simple, clean, almost elegant. Its body is a shiny frosted steel with all the annoying symbols on the back but just the capacity on the front with the brand name below it. About the size of 2 pieces of gum, it's roughly 4cm long and almost 5mm thick. It has a rounded semi-circle hole (and opposite, a concave 2nd half) which I use mine to latch onto my car keys - no worries about durability as any serious knocks just equate to a little scratch or nick. Durability wise it is sound and snug but repeated use in USB slots tends to wear down the silvery finish if only 4 connector lines. No cap to cover the end but USBs tend to be well built anyway and I've not experienced any issues with dust or dirt (just read it is dust and shock resistant) - and I've had it since August 2016. I know I normally mark down for boring or 'safe' styling but in the case of a memory stick, additional cosmetics tend to get damaged easily or just obstruct in the things purpose, clogging against other plugs. It's also quite low weight but still has a strong feeling of quality thanks to the materials.

First of all, the choice of GB size is handy, settling for 64Gb was an easy one at that price (back then it was £13.99) Easily enough room for large files, videos, photos etc. Speed isn't a problem for me to be honest as it seems a bit of a fact of life to be waiting for things to copy over/delete so the lack of a 3.0 USB doesn't bother me at all but is worth flagging up. Some people have mistaken it for being a 3.0 but they're likely just skipping the part that says '2.0' in the title. It's speeds are the following: Read: Up to 18 MB/s per second, Write: Up to 5 MB/s per second. There's none of this "ARGH! Need to install driver software to function properly" nonsense to deal with when you plug in as the drive just pops up sharpish. In summary, it is probably the best budget USB stick I have owned as it is faster, lighter and smaller than a Kingston which was also about £10 more expensive. Clearly storage devices have modernised and now I highly recommend this to anyone currently using a desktop/laptop for a very useful tool to transfer and store digital goods. *Pats self on back for getting a review done on a lunch break :)*
