As I am always lookin for the best picture possible I thought I would give Toshiba's new XDE 500 DVD player a go, as the new TV lived up to claims. I already have a PS3, Toshiba HD player and a very expensive Denon upscaler attached to the TV. All of which do a very fine job with standard DVD's. You would not believe the difference this player made!!
My two bench mark DVD's are always Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith and Monsters Inc. I was absolutely gobsmacked at how good these films looked. I would honestly say they were HD quality or a smidge under. I then tried other DVD's leaving the player in 'sharp mode'. Finding Nemo and The Incredibles look amazing. The colour and clarity make me wonder why I have ever bothered forking out lots of money for Bluray movies! I haven't tried lower quality dvd's yet but I am sure it will work wonders on them too. I am going to get a copy of Meet The Robinsons on DVD and compare it to my Bluray copy as that is the benchmark on Bluray in my opinion.

Has output for a surround sound system and can be plugged into your TV via HDMI,or Scart, the max output you'll get through scart is 420p, but with teh HDMI you can choose from 420p, all the way up to 1080p. And you get a free HDMI cable, it's not the best but it still does a damn good job.

This dvd player can also playback almost all pre recorded material without the disc being finalized, which is very handy, if like me you record alot of thing onto DVD. Could have done with the ability to record, but I use another player to record my shows. If you want a recorder aswell as a dvd upscaler then Sony do a very good model for about £90.
When you play your DVD's you can really start to appreciate the technology inside this ...
