Advantages Got everything to do with guitar, songs tabbed, news, reviews, interviews

Disadvantages Probably a bit to easy for pros

A brand new issue of Europe’s Best Selling Guitar Magazine hits the shelves every month. Each issue is packed with all the things to make you a better guitar player. Total Guitar contains tabs of your favourite songs, the latest news in the guitar world, interviews, reviews, tutorials and much more.

You usually get at least 10 tracks tabbed in Total Guitar in range of different styles. One track is a Classic Track, one to be remembered, such classic tracks which have appeared in Total Guitar are The Rolling Stones – Tumbling Dice, Van Halen – Panama and Michael Jackson – Beat It. They also tab quite a few more tracks although sometimes they only show part of the song, and sometimes only the chords for songs are shown. You’ll have to work out the rhythm pattern and all that on your own. Thankfully each issue of Total Guitar contains a CD with all the tabbed tracks.

There’s a Riff of the Month and Chord of the Month for you to learn as well as the tabbed tracks although I’m not so fussed on these as the riffs are usually pretty simple but they do give tips for using the chord of the month which is decent of them. Total Guitar includes a tutorial each month for the advancing guitarist showing you a particular technique such as playing fast, pentatonics and playing lead. Although this is more geared towards the beginner it is still useful for a more advanced guitarist to brush up on their technique.

As well as teaching you how to play guitar, Total Guitar also includes all the latest in the guitar world. The mag reports the latest news and interviews with your favourite bands and guitarists. Total Guitar often has special features such as “The Best New Bands of 2001” which are a good read. You also get loads of gear reviewed such as guitars, amps, effects, even leads as well as album reviews and Tuitional Aid reviews.

And as if that wasn’t enough there is also a Q&A section, Letters written by the readers and Reader Ads.

All in all Total Guitar is a great mag and will make you a better player so try it!
