Greasing up your face for another shave isn’t the most pleasant of things to do. I don’t really like shaving foams, they get everywhere, in yer ears, mouth, up yer nose (ok, maybe it’s just me!), so I usually go for gels when I have a wet shave. 9 times out of 10 I use my electric shaver anyway, but when you need something that bit closer, something that’s actually going to give you a clean shave, you have to go for the wet shave.

I recently tried a shaving oil made by ‘Total Shaving Solution’ which is available from the online retailer www.body4real.com who offer more than just shaving products. This 10ml bottle of shaving oil (10mls, that’s miniscule right!?) offers you 90 shaves. Hmmm, sceptical about that one. However, once you have tried it, I guarantee you that this bottle will last you roughly 90 shaves!

THE SHAVE

So, there I was, greasing up with this oil which didn’t seem to do anything on my face, I wasn’t even sure if any oil had made contact with my skin, 3 drops seemed a tiny amount in the palm of my hand. Nevermind, I gave it a go anyway, risking slicing my face to pieces. Prepared for much pain, and never received any, hey, the oil really had coated my skin. Shaving with pain free and actually quite a pleasure (well, as pleasurable as shaving can be at the best of times!). With the oil, not only can you see where your shaving, but you can see any bits which you have missed, which is impossible where you compare it to using shaving foam.

After the shave, I found my face feeling icy and tingy, it wasn’t a painful feeling and it was uncomfortable either, it actually felt quite nice. I can imagine getting out of a nice hot shower in the morning, and then having a shave with this oil as being a very very invigorating wake up call to those who need it, i.e. me! You can also should you wish, apply another one drop to your face after shaving, which gives you an extra cool feeling and I suppose, replenishes oils that the skin has lost during shaving, though the packaging does not mention this.

THE SMELL

The smell of the oil I found a little daunting at first, it wasn’t a particularly nice smell, but then when shaving, you actually find it to be quite a nice smell to compliment your already fresh and icy face.

The oil looks like normal oil, it isn’t slippy though, and when mixed with the water that you have already applied to your face, it seems as though theres nothing there, which is more than I can say for some oils I have tried in the past. It’s a clear oil, a bit like water, just has a bit more consistency to it.

OVERALL

The oil can also be used for a pre-electric shave, for those of you who find electric shavers give you an uncomfortable feeling of ‘ripping’ the hair out like some do, a bit like when your razor goes blunt!

Would I recommend it? Yer, though it depends what you like. Some people like foam, some like gels, some like nothing and just an electric shave. For those of you who like electric shaves and gels, I recommend you try this, it makes a nice change and leaves you feeling really fresh after the shave, great for the mornings.

If you like your foam, then generally your going to stick to it regardless and you probably won’t like this.

For those of you who wish to know, this is 100% Natural. There are no added dyes, salts, soaps, alcohol or chemicals. Wat your putting on your face is all natural (bit like me while I'm shaving after coming out the shower then....did I really just say that!?). It is also not tested on animals.....which is appropriate really, which animals grow a beard like us?!

5/5 from me, it would have been 4/5, but the feeling you get after using this oil to shave is so unique that it has to have 5!

It can be bought at body4real.com for £3.50, I have never seen it elsewhere, so don’t know if anyone else does it.
