...I recently purchased this self-training package from the Register (delivered within 3 days as versus 6 weeks from Amazon) for £34 and found it a useful starter guide to Sage. It is a combination of workbooks and CD Rom. The CD Rom gives you 90 days of a training version of Sage accounts and comes preloaded with data for you to practise with. For those who are not familiar with Sage, it is a basic book keeping package for small business owners in particular. It has a number of modules which allow you to track transactions (sales), payments and banking details. It also allows you to track VAT and calculate VAT payments. ...be said that the new 2000 MCSE exams have a lot more bite. Frankley this is necessary to stop the qualification from becoming under valued. Conclusion: Either do the MCSE the hard way (on the job experience/self training) and good luck to you, gold star. Or the Easy way (boot camp/lots of training courses) and go to the bottom of the class.... Read review

...a career as an MCSE. This training is designed to provide people with a concentrated level of exposure to the product, whilst providing hands on experience is a "safe" environment. During this time I have noticed a fall in the general calibre of people coming through the system. I now usually train Microsoft BackOffice applications (usually SMS 2) and have noticed that the general level of expertise with NT 4 has fallen whilst the number of MCSEs coming on the courses has risen. Many people try to argue that the MCSE is a premier certification that once achieved means that a person has outstanding NT skills. Other people will say that the certification has been totally devalued by the number of people who manage to achieve it without any real world experience. I feel that a happy medium must apply.
