Advantages: Can work at own pace Disadvantages: Not all aspects are covered
I recently purchased this self-training package from the Register (delivered within 3 days as versus 6 weeks from Amazon) for £34 and found it a useful starter guide to Sage. It is a combination of workbooks and CD Rom. The CD Rom gives you 90 days of a training version of Sage accounts and comes preloaded with data for you to practise with.
For those who are not familiar with Sage, it is a basic book keeping package for small business owners in particular. It has a number of modules which allow you to track transactions (sales), payments and banking details. It also allows you to track VAT and calculate VAT payments.

Overall the teacher training route that I have taken has given me some really great experiences and I feel very well prepared to go into the real world of teaching!
Peer Observation Day
One thing that the university recommend is peer observation days. This means that during the placement we arrange to go to one of our peers placement schools and spend the day observing their teaching and how things work in their school. Alfred Hitchcock?s Strangers on a Train - excellent movie! I could leave it that but of course I won?t. I?d had this 2 disk special edition in my DVD collection for a while before I got around to watching it. I really should have watched it as soon as I bought it.
