My best bike
Advantages: Grunt, comfort, sound Disadvantages: Top-heaviness, service costs
...The £620 quoted by a Triumph dealer for the 12k service is reasonable when you consider the time involved, but as an engineer I felt quite confident about managing the affair - and it brought us closer! Apart from the service cost (local non-Triumph garages will do the same for around £400), I've always found the Triumph dealers friendly and helpful.
Always fit bike drop protection; I haven't dropped a bike for 15 years and this one's been dropped ...

British all-rounder that beats the japs
Advantages: An excellent allrounder with impressive mid-range performance. Disadvantages: Fuel gauge fluctuates wildly
This bike is good looking, comfortable to ride with good handling. Performance is best mid-range when you need/enjoy it most. The 3 cylinder engine sounds great and is very responsive. It captures some of the torque of the big twins combined with the attributes of a multi. The mix works well. It is also very good on fuel consumption. Bike starts easily and runs smoothly immediately. gearbox is quite slick too and not clunk like some of jap boxes. ...

Triumph Trophy 1200cc
Advantages: Reliability, strong engine, powerful Disadvantages: Seat, windscreen
I have owned my 2003 Triumph Trophy T312 1200cc since March 2006. I bought it with 9000 miles on the clock, all documents, full service record and in totally immaculate condition for only £3000. This was my first "big" bike after having a series of 600cc machines. My initial fear of it being too big, bulky and heavy were reasonably unfounded as I seemed to adapt reasonably well and quickly to riding it. Having said that, I am 6ft tall and am pretty ... ...to cope. Anyone who is significantly smaller may struggle with it. The build quality of the bike is excellent. Regarding features, everything seems to be very well put together, all plastics fit and meet perfectly and the paintwork is impressive. All user controls are very well positioned and easy to use too. The riding position is excellent. Well suited to long journeys, however there are 2 gripes I have. Firstly, the screen looks as though it would ...

Fantastic machine!
Advantages: Cool, fast, refined, beautiful, fantastic to ride Disadvantages: Cornering, loads of chrome to polish
I owned one of these for 3 months before throwing it down the road and busting myself quite badly- not so much the machine's fault, but mine for riding it like a sportsbike. It has a 2.3 litre engine, which propels 1/3 of a tonne of metal to 100 mph in an astonishingly fast time. my best is 7 seconds! As soon as you sit on (or rather in) the bike, a thrill courses through the body - you know its going to be good. from the sidestand position it feels ... ...sidestand up, and ignition on. The dials light subtley and go through a diagnostic mode, which is quite nice to watch. Pull in the clutch and push the red button. It sounds like a truck turning over and the bike tries to lurch to one side as the huge engine starts to spin and.... broom, it sounds like any other triple engine. I found this annoying for such a special bike, so I had the loud cans fitted. Now it goes BROOM!!!!! ( very slight performance ...

Long term report
Advantages: All-round riding experience, comfort (I'm 6'1"), character, riding position, handling Disadvantages: Not the most reliable bike for all-year round use, costly to run
...very quickly (this is a Triumph trait - read other Triumph long term feedback)... It is a VERY costly machine to run. My Transalp ran for over 40,000 miles and cost very little to run sweetly... However, sometimes I consider selling the bike and getting something that is more reliable and better built (like my Transalp) but when you ride one and it is running well... after 20 years and over 15 bikes, it's the best bike I've ever ridden... I love ...
