Toyo are a Japanese Tyre manufacturer that not many people have heard of.
Yet to me they are the most sexy looking tyre around, if tyres can be sexy! I mean the tread pattern of course! I had toyos all around on my RS Turbo. The grip level was unreal and the depth of tread great. The tyres on my Tub were standard size 195/50/15's and a tyre that low in profile normally loses a lot of its tread in order to cater for the profile. Not the Toyo. It has a very wide tread pattern. Making a lot of contact with the road while giving it enough play to movce around and keep you stuck down.
In the wet, the wide tread allowed the car to tip toe through the water rather than slip and slide through it.
They dont just cater for quick cars. You can pick up a nice tyre for your family saloon or hatchback too. The range seems to grow year after year as more people try them out.
Longevity? Well, they were still looking like new when I sold the Tub. They had clocked 15,000 miles up on them without loking worn. That is suprising thinking about the way it ate a set of firestones in about 4 months!
Price? Well I paid £50 each for mine so they are slightly more than your Firestones or budget tyre and along the same price as Pirelli, Goodyear and Dunlop.
So Toyo make attractive and practical tyres at an affordable price.
The only bad side is not many places stock them. You may need to shop around for them.
Ive just purchased a set of RV1 alloys for my mg and they came with toyo tires and to be honest Im changing the tires because they dont grip like my previous pilot sport but then again theres a big diffrence in price and longtivity eg Toyo cost £60.00 each Michelin pilot sport £115 each Toyo tires are a hard compound were as michelin are a medium to soft compound --Adam

Good Op, I have just bought some toyo proxes T1-S, after having my suspicions backed up by you.
Very deep tread, and an gressive pattern too.
Mine are for an SLK with 225/45/17 ZR on the front and 245/40/17 ZR on the back. A lot of companies dont cater for both sizes. I got mine from blackcircles.com and made a saving of around £150. Not tried it in wet yet but I have tried it in dry with traction control off and they really do grip.
