Advantages Advantages quick, well equipped, eye-catching

    Disadvantages Disadvantages bad fuel economy

Ok, i know its a bit long but its worth reading if you're thinking of buying one! As most of us know, not all of us can afford to splash out on large, vulgar and exspensive German machines such as Bmws and Mercs, so for those of you who are not prepared to go and spend £40,000+ on a car, i suggest the Toyota Avensis, the perfect family car. My dad bought his after a certain idiot decided to have a drink and then drive(don't do it, its not worth it!)and run my dads pride and joy off the road.(read of my review of a renault scenic) So, as i was saying...... My dad bought ours for just over £3 ... more

Advantages Advantages Ease of drive, comfort, equipment levels, space, acceleration

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rear visibility

I've just bought a second hand Avensis 2.0 Auto GLS. This car is excellent. I've spent a month trying to find flaws and can't find any major ones. OK There is one. The rear view. Anyhow to business. Firstly, it's very comfortable inside. Rear headrests, walnut finish, electric windows all round, air conditioning and sunroof. However, it's the safety I think I am most impressed with. I have a wife and three children and so I think about safety quite a bit. Simple things are well catered for. In the rear, all the seatbelts are full. The centre one is not just a lap belt. It has dual airbags and ... more

Advantages Advantages Large spacious car, everything easy to operate quite at your fingertips

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gas and oil guzzler, not very easy on the pocket.

Toyota Avensis 2.0 VVT-i Saloon This car is a strange one to talk about because it was both the best and worst car I ever drove. I'll start with the good part. My Toyota Avensis 2.0 Was a gold/green colour and my husband bought it to prove undying love when I said I wanted out as he wasn't very good to me. He then felt that the bigger the car, the stronger the love he was trying to show. This car was huge compared to all the other cars I've driven and I've gone through about 7. He bought it as used in 2009 with 60,000miles on the clock. THE BACK SEATS carried the 2 full sized car seats that my ... more

Advantages Advantages Well equipped; Fairly Quick – and silver.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Acceleration only “good”; a few rattles.

I’d owned a ’97 2L Carina for 4 years and I liked that – but it was getting old. Despite having given solid service I wanted to replace it – with a budget of £10K plus the Carina. Initially I wanted a low mileage 6th generation Toyota Celica or a recent Honda Prelude – but those proved far too rare. I considered a 2.5L Galant (but they had shoddy interiors – which put me off.) I considered an Accord which I liked from the outside but inside lacked equipment – specifically a factory standard full alarm (and it seemed noisy on the test drive.) I stumbled across a 2 year old Avenis 2.0 CDX and – ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, very big, high specification, easy to drive.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very big.

I sell lease cars through a large finance company and I get lots of opportunities to test drive various makes and models. I have recently taken a Toyota Avensis 2.0 GLS 5dr Estate Automatic away for a weekend with 4 friends. It’s a very large vehicle (driving it feels a bit like piloting a plane) but is very smooth to operate. 3 point turns are a joke in an automatic estate anyway, so I didn’t feel too bad when mine kept turning into 17 point turns. For motorway driving, you can’t beat an automatic, but we went to the country for the weekend and found it even more useful around the twisty ... more
