Toyota Celica 2.0 GTI 16V 1993 'K' Reg'

Advantages: Reliable as a lamp-post, great handling, sexy shape, great performer.
Disadvantages: Poor turning circle, parts expensive

Toyota Celica 2.0 GTI 16v 5th generation ST182. British car, not import.

The model I’m describing here is a ‘K’ reg 1993 5th generation, 2.0 16v GTI, 3SGE engined front wheel drive version of this wonderful car; it has 154 BHP on tap and is in a non turbo form.
The reason for the GT4 coming about with its 200 odd HP output is because there was too much power for just a 2 wheel drive car to handle, torque steering and wheel spin ...
...My previous experience in the Toyota range was a 1986 3.0 Supra (3-MGE) non turbo.
I find the two cars similar in many ways but, this one is smaller, lighter and handles a whole lot better than my old beauty that suffered the ravages of the metal moth, and ended up as a 1.5 ton metal cube! , even in my trade (motor mechanic) there’s a time to call it a day on expenses.

First impressions.

Celica GT4 - An under-rated gem

Advantages: A rare and understated boy racer eater
Disadvantages: Very thirsty, expensive parts, insurance

...have been told that all TOyota spares are expensive. The upside is the reliability of Toyota engines - they are bullet proof. Mine NEVER let me down. Although this gives a bit of comfort there are items that require replacement - such as the cambelt. A cambelt change cost me £900(!) Apparently it was quite a large job. Since it was a grey import there were many places that would not touch it with a barge pole. Shame, but taking it to a specialist ...
...job done instead of some cowboy bodging it together. If you are bothered about economy then a GT4 is not for you. I was lucky in that this car was my toy. I walked to work (except on very rare occassions) so it was parked up for most of the week. I managed to get around 20 mpg and mine was not modified in any way (except for a dump valve which does not affect economy). This rubbish about if you drive a car sensibly the economy should increase. It ...

My most fun car I've ever had!

Advantages: This car stroked my ego!
Disadvantages: It became too expensive to keep on the road )-:

************* HGD 992X The memories... ************* HISTORY I bought this car in 1993 from a small independent garage run by a father and son team. I paid a paltry £500 for this 1983/84 edition of the 2 litre, liftback (as oppose to the uglier hatchback). I thought I'd died and gone to heaven and still to this day believe my ex had set the whole scenario up. However, the day we collected the car it broke down on our way home and the garage ...
...broken fuel pump if I recollect correctly. This possibly was the reason why it had been sold to the garage so cheaply. But I was lucky in that the problem occurred within 1/2 hour of colllecting the car and the garage had no option but to repair it if they wanted to appear honourable. COMFORT On opening the driver's door I found bucket seats in a rich blue/purple upholstery. It was immaculate and had evidently been looked after by it's two previous ...

Brilliant fun and sensible too.

Advantages: Practical, fun, economic and reliable.
Disadvantages: Forget the back seats if you are over 5' 6".

It all started with a Sunday ride out with the wife a kids (2 lads). As we're passing a garage with a forecourt loaded with imports the better half (known as either Sue) says stop, go back, turn in. I do as I am bid. Then I notice what had caught her eye - a gleaming red Celica (2.0GT). Turns out it's a 1994, import from Japan via Holland with all the proper documentation. The engine's running as it has just been driven out of the compound at the ...
...Sue takes us for a short test drive (leaving the salesman the keys to my car) and she is in love. That was just over 5 years ago. The kmph speedo was replaced with a new mph one prior to delivery, which was agreed for the following Saturday, but, they rang on Thursday to say Sue could pick it up that night - which she did. It goes, boy does it go. It stops. It just goes where you point it - every time. It loves point and squirt driving. It can trickle ...

...driving my new toyota celica. what a drive and what a pleasant surprise i was in for. after reading much hype about this model i thought i should try it for myself and the only word i can think of is WOW. its a long time since i drove a car that lived up to its reputation like this. my car is one of the last of this model on a g plate and looks as good as it drives. the acceleration is stunning, the road holding is superb and the whole experience ...

...My little black 1994 Toyota Celica GT is just perfect for me. It can rip a number of other sporty cars to pieces but does lack a bit of go from time to time. I think, were it any faster, I'd get myself in trouble :O) Spec: 2.0ltr Twin-Cam 16-Valve engine 135 Horsepower 145@4400rpm Torque Top Speed: 139mph (maybe a teensy bit more at a push) 4-wheel steer Power Steering Bucket type sport seats in material Leather covered steering wheel Electric ...

Toyota Celica 2.0 16 valve SS2

Advantages: Sporty looking, reliable, very fast, Surprisingly economical
Disadvantages: Some replacement parts can be expensive

had it up to 125mph on the motorway many times with ease and no excess vibration was felt at all. The interior is superb although people that have sat in the back have complained that it is a little cramped. I was also pleasantly surprised that it has loads of space in the boot. Can easily fit 2 sets of golf clubs and a few trolleys in there, no problem. Toyota engines do have a very good reputation of lasting for years and years. I regularly check the oil level and have hardly needed to top it up at all since I bought it nearly a year ago. Overall I can't really find any major faults with this car. If looked after and regularly serviced this car will go on and on for years.I plan on keeping it for many years to come. ...

200cc short of a sports car

Advantages: very sexy looking car
Disadvantages: none apart from engine

Why oh why haven't Toyota bought this car out as a 2 litre? l used to drive a 1988 2.0 celica some years back;l WILL buy a vvti when they push the engine capacity up by those 200cc.l am sure a lot of people will agree that although it is a very sexy car,(much better than the last model) it will be more appealing and more sporty with the 2 litre yamaha engine. At the moment it is very under powered.ok,it will do a fair top speed;(if you are into that of course-none of us go faster than 70 do we?!)unfortunately as it is at the moment, the 0-60 is nothing to write home about.they have improved the interior as l was told it was very garish;perhaps they will improve the engine capacity! ...

Superb Toyota Celica Sports

Advantages: Faster , Saffer, and smart Car
Disadvantages: Expensive

The Toyota Celica Sport is a sports car, but I thought it was a sporting round. Others, like the Renault Clio Sport 2.0 16V (169 hp), run more and have a higher stability. What we can do better is the relationship between price and performance. . Most of the cupés similar power cost much more, with only the Opel Astra Coupe 2.0 Turbo (190 hp) is a lower price. Except for the Astra, and equal price, any other coupe is less potent. Under normal conditions does not appear to have 192 hp at our disposal and only really noticed when his drive drove between 6,200 and 8,200 rpm. It looks more like a motor racing one road for several reasons: it has a margin of regime useful very wide consumption is high in sporting regime already very high vibrates and rings too. this is beautifull i love it ...
