Toyota Celica 2.0 GTI 16v 5th generation ST182. British car, not import. The model I’m describing here is a ‘K’ reg 1993 5th generation, 2.0 16v GTI, 3SGE engined front wheel drive version of this wonderful car; it has 154 BHP on tap and is in a non turbo form. The reason for the GT4 coming about with its 200 odd HP output is because there was too much power for just a 2 wheel drive car to handle, torque steering and wheel spin being major drawbacks to power being put down on the road. So split into 4 wheel drive (GT4) evened out the power, thus enabling major upgrades in performance to be had ... more

Advantages Advantages A rare and understated boy racer eater

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very thirsty, expensive parts, insurance

You get to that stage where you just need more. I am a self confessed petrol head that craves horse power and acceleration. In my point of view top end speed is vanity. Sure, I would love to say my car can do 180mph, but where will I get to those sorts of speeds. To me, acceleration is far more exciting. I would prefer a car that tops out at 100mph but gets there in a couple of seconds. I got to the stage where I needed a turbo. My first choice was an MR2 but due to my job, and the need to carry three or four large pilot cases around the 2 seater was a no go. It was then I looked at the rally ... more

Advantages Advantages This car stroked my ego!

Disadvantages Disadvantages It became too expensive to keep on the road )-:

************* HGD 992X The memories... ************* HISTORY I bought this car in 1993 from a small independent garage run by a father and son team. I paid a paltry £500 for this 1983/84 edition of the 2 litre, liftback (as oppose to the uglier hatchback). I thought I'd died and gone to heaven and still to this day believe my ex had set the whole scenario up. However, the day we collected the car it broke down on our way home and the garage came and collected it and then fixed it - a broken fuel pump if I recollect correctly. This possibly was the reason why it had been sold to the garage so ... more

Advantages Advantages Practical, fun, economic and reliable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Forget the back seats if you are over 5' 6".

It all started with a Sunday ride out with the wife a kids (2 lads). As we're passing a garage with a forecourt loaded with imports the better half (known as either Sue) says stop, go back, turn in. I do as I am bid. Then I notice what had caught her eye - a gleaming red Celica (2.0GT). Turns out it's a 1994, import from Japan via Holland with all the proper documentation. The engine's running as it has just been driven out of the compound at the rear to the forecourt, and even idling it sounds right. Sue takes us for a short test drive (leaving the salesman the keys to my car) and she is in ... more

well i am left speechless after driving my new toyota celica. what a drive and what a pleasant surprise i was in for. after reading much hype about this model i thought i should try it for myself and the only word i can think of is WOW. its a long time since i drove a car that lived up to its reputation like this. my car is one of the last of this model on a g plate and looks as good as it drives. the acceleration is stunning, the road holding is superb and the whole experience is complete. all in all a superb car. ... more
