Advantages: cheap, reliable and hassle free Disadvantages: poor handling and brake fade will restrict speed
...car for those wishing to get from A to B with the minimum of hassle, a relaxing drive unless pushed and the auto is great around town. The list price is 11,695 but I paid 10,500 from a Toyota main dealer so savings are easy to find.

The new shape corrola (2000 model) is little different from the previous one save new headlight clusters and a sportier front end. The exterior styling in general is a big improvement on the corollas of old although the rear end looks a little less sporty than the front. Inside the car is functional and comfortable with reasonable specifications. On my 'Vida' model the CD player is very well thought out with good quality speakers. Air conditioning is effective but manually controlled. On journeys both long and bumpy the corolla is comfortable with a soft ride. This soft ride does, however, affect the handling the soft shocks coupled with the poor chassis makes handling above 50mph very poor indeed, this being my main complaint of the car. Definatley not one for the country switchbacks due to the lurid oversteer brought about by even the most gentle lift off of power or dad of the breaks whilst cornering fast. The brakes themselves are good at moderate speed with performance falling off greatly above 70mph or whi;lst cornering above 20mph. My car was not fitted with ABS which would have been very useful due to the light rear end and over powered rear drums. The 1.6 litre engine with variable valve timing is nippy and produces enough torque to keep most corolla buyers happy. with 109 Bhp on tap the car accelerates well up to reasonable speed without excessive fuss. The 4 speed auto 'box on the automatic model is reasonable and although slower than the manual has reasonably spaced ratios. Passenger comfort is good and although rear leg room is not huge it will suffice. Safety is ensured with driver and passenger airbags and side impact bars with the middle rear seatbelt being of the three point variety. Economy is reasonable with my automatic giving an overall fuel economy of 35mpg but out of town it si good with a regularly achieveable 42mpg, the manual will obviously be more economical. Overall a good car for those wishing to get from A to B with the minimum of hassle, a relaxing drive unless pushed and the auto is great around town. The list price is 11,695 but I paid 10,500 from a Toyota main dealer so savings are easy to find.
Advantages: Reliability. Predictable handling. Easy to drive. Comfortable. Disadvantages: If you want excitement, my old Maestro may still be for sale...
OK, so we all know they're the most boring car in the world, and Top Gear hates them.
Getting round a corner quickly without sliding or even feeling worried is boring. Knowing exactly what the car will do at all times may be boring, but that's the way i like it. Boring doesn't mean it handles badly - just very, very predictably.
Knowing that you'll get to where you're going is pretty dull, too. I used to drive an old Maestro, and not knowing if ... ...a little excitement. I can vouch for that.
The automatic gearbox is smooth, and responds quickly, but with a 1.3 engine, don't try to race anyone with anything fast! It can keep pace with most traffic, but it's not sporty.
I've had this car from new, for around 6 months, and had no problems. But then you knew that. Because it's so boring. ...

...up all they say about Toyota build quality as I didn't have an ounce of bother with the car in all the time I had her, furhter to that as I knew the previous owner I can also say they had no problems with breakdowns either. This is the sort of car you drive and enjoy driving.
I have no problem in recommending this car to anyone - I was very sorry when I was forced to change, further disappointed when I was forced to buy a different brand due to ...

Advantages: economical Disadvantages: too man to list, but overall feeling of cheapness
...when i drive it.
The toyota corrola has to be one of the worst cars I've driven in a long time. A lot of the car magazines have slated it for years, saying that it was boring, but very reliable. You have to take these magazines reviews with a pinch of salt, since they are only usually interested in fast cars and not family runarounds.
Consequently, I was expecting a good car albeit a bit boring. I was very surprised when I sat in it for the first ...
