Advantages: Good fun, stands out in the crowd Disadvantages: Very low to the road, job to get hold of a manual
We bought our MR2 two years ago. It was up for sale outside our local and I fell in love with the shape. To cut a long story short, we bought it for £2,000. The last owner was a mechanic so it had been well looked after. We were told that the engine was very noisy as it is a mid-engined car (believe it or not, that's what the MR stands for - mid range). However, after a couple of journeys, we didn't notice any noise whatsoever. This particular car ... ...It is a term Japan uses which is similar to our 'Limited Edition' etc.
The main problem we had was the fact that a handbook was impossible to buy - you can download them in Japanese, but that isn't really much help! Also, you have to fall into the car and climb out, especially if parked next to a pavement. The boot at the back is not especially big, but there is another compartment for luggage at the front. However, after a couple of journeys, we didn't notice any noise whatsoever. This particular car was an import - G Limited basically means this. It is a term Japan uses which is similar to our 'Limited Edition' etc.
The main problem we had was the fact that a handbook was impossible to buy - you can download them in Japanese, but that isn't really much help! Also, you have to fall into the car and climb out, especially if parked next to a pavement. The boot at the back is not especially big, but there is another compartment for luggage at the front. One other fault was the fact that the milometre was in kilometres but you can get a mileage one fitted.
The car was also mid range for fuel economy but, boy, could it go! It was the best sports car we have had, and we've had quite a few. Performance wise it was brilliant - good handling, fast and thrilling.
One of the good things in summer was the air conditioning, also the heater was good in the winter, very quick to heat the car.
We sold the MR2 about 2 months ago for almost the same price we paid for it. The only reason we sold the car was because we're both getting older now and I suffer from neck problems which made falling in and climing out quite difficult. If it hadn't been for that, we'd have kept the car for years. I just wish we'd known about the MR2 earlier!
I fully recommend this car to anybody, although the insurance can be quite high for the younger driver.
Advantages: great looks, great handling Disadvantages: dangerous in the wet
I had my MR2 about 6 months ago, it is the non turbo and not an import.
Firstly some of the spec.

When the MR2's were built, they had certain options fitted as an either/or, for example mine has a sunroof instead of air con. You don't find one with ... ...air con can be more trouble than its worth - especially on older cars.
The drive of this car is outstanding, it handles like a dream (in the dry) and the car is more than capable of handling the power it produces (169bhp). It is a mid engine rear wheel drive setup 2 seater which means the engine is just behind the driver and it has a boot and some room under the bonnet. Saying that the spare wheel is kept under the bonnet and with the shape of the ...

Advantages: GREAT LOOKS,SOLID TOYOTA RELIABLITY,COMFORTABLE INTERIOR Disadvantages: DOESNT LIKE WET WEATHER,SPARE PARTS COSTS,HARD SUSPENSION,INTERIOR NOISE
...the interior although like most toyota cars is a little dark and drab but the seats are fully adjustable and the driving position again are fully adjustable as well as all the little buttons switches air con, stereo are very easy to reach and adjust without having to take your eyes off the road.mine come with a t_bar and ive seen mr2s with sun roofs but they dont look the part compared to the t bar,ive herd a few reports of leaking t-bars but ive ... ...when you call your local toyota dealer ...all in all though (in the dry) i dont think you can get a better car for you money than this if your after a little 2 door sports car and a normal everyday car as the fuel consumption isnt that bad and the insurance isnt that bad either so all in all if you have 2-5 grand you need to spend on a little 2 door sports car then look no futher......... ...

Advantages: Sports Car for the money of a hatchback Disadvantages: You will spin out at some point
Plodding up and down the M1 is never fun. A round trip for me from Folkestsone to Leed was a few miles shy of 600... The car that I used for this mega trip was a bog standard Vectra 1.6. Underpowered and Sales Exec-tastic it did the job. When the need to travel this distance was no longer required neither was the Vectra.
What could I buy to replace such a car... The decision was a tough one but in the end I knew the basic direction I had to go. ... ...The Honda CRX was out as I could not fit it it, likewise for the Hyundai Coupe.
The search led me to the MR2. A car that was a leader of its time and still has a lot to offer as the first sports car of my car history.
Driving - Great. It is not mind blowingly fast but that is good. This is an entry level sports car. Buy one of these to see how things should be. Experience rear wheel drive, low driving position and tuned suspension. Hot hatch 0-60 ...

Advantages: Looks great when clean. Responsive and solid when cornering. Accelerates quickly when called upon. Well designed dash. Battery power indication light, unusual but very useful feature. Engine noise, delightful purr behind the left ear. Disadvantages: 2 seats, I'd like to share teh experience with more than one person at a time. Spare wheel is a temp <50mph one. Heavy on petrol.
...can't find fault with the build quality at all.
Overall the 1992 Toyota MR2 is a joy to drive. For a 2000cc engine I'm getting 200 miles on average for 30 litres of fuel. Handling and general roadholding are superb. I personally will never buy a new car again. ...

Advantages: Headturner, power, great handling, comfortable Disadvantages: Can be heavy on petrol, only 2 seats, speedhumps can be tricky
Have to say this is one of the best cars I have owned and I have owned a lot, the car handles corners like it is on rails, acceleration is great you know you can quickly get out of nearly any problems. Mine has been lowered on Koni adjustables which help with cornering but doesn't like the bumps in the road to much. Can be economical as long as the car is driven correctly otherwise you can just sit there and watch the petrol gauge slowly dissapear. ... ...enough people out there that are breaking their cars down if you need second hand parts. A must is a turbo version just to give you that extra kick of power when needed. Surprising again with a little 2 seater that there is actually quite a bit of boot space. Older models can suffer with electrical problems but as long as you know what you are doing can easily be rectified ...
