Advantages: Pin sharp handling, stylish looks, soft top good mpg for car Disadvantages: expensive to crash, alloys corrode, requires attention to detail/
Damn!
What a fine car. Have been an owner for little over a year now and thought I would share my experiences.
For a start as with all image cars we have look at the word image. This is definitly an image car with extremely stylish lines and a beautifully thought out rear end. (compare to porsche). The front takes a bit of getting used to but is an aquired taste. The alloys also look the part, but are let down in that ... ...They WILL be done free of charge. I was out of warrenty but with a bit of talking got a heavy discount on the refurbishment. Just talk lol.
I feel that the tyres are a bit thin. NOT affecting traction in the slightest (ill get to that in a min) but they look a bit thin and this is on the facelift model. (wider tyres than previously). However this is a personal niggle and is not detrimental in the slightest.

The inside is very very attractive in leather and has got many compliments. It also retains the smell of leather very well, giving the impression of being new.
Going on to the reliability I have mixed opinions. If you treat this car well it will love you for it. I have a FTSH and it seems to be holding well. This is slightly marred by the fact that I had a crash in it though :(
After the crash my opinions on the car changed slightly. For a start having parts replaced were fairly expensive and I was left with a huge bill after knocking the wing, bonnet, wishbone. headlights, bumper etc off.
While they are not major major, I had the feeling that even a small crash would have replicated the same effects due to the construction of it. I mean as soon as the bonnet moves it snapped of the headlights and pushed the wing.
However this is part and parcel of what happens when going to fast. However the problems then started. The car would mysteriously refuse to start causing many headaches. This has never been solved even with Toyotas help.
On one of these occasions I had a critical job interview. Hurridly I connected jump leads, but in my haste and due to poor markings, connected the wrong way. THEN the troubles began. it has blown most of the electrics, the fuses and dare I say the ECU. It is a MAJOR design flaw in the car so everyone take care!
Lets get on to more positive things.
Safety wise this car is very good. Had a head on collision with a land rover at 30mph. While damaged the front the important stuff was behind me. The air bags didnt come out which was very good and the car absorbed the damage well. Both me and the passenger walked away unharmed though shaking slightly.
Performance wise the car is great fun, rather than a driving masterpiece. It may lack the power from the lights and the acceleration feels uninspired (SMT), but this is more than made up with the handling.
It handles brlliantly due to the engine placement and weight distribution. It takes corners with ease, with the traction control giving great feedback. Push to hard and it will slide, though this is easily rectified and I have only ever been in this situation once.
The miles per gallon is also another great feature. The car dosent like to be revved hard, as it sounds forced and hard, and this impacts on your MPG in a positive way in turn.
The soft top is absolutly inspired. It takes seconds to put down and put up and has had no reliabilitys issues with rotting etc. The rear screen is glass and is heated helping it out in winter immentsely.
Overall I would recommend this car if you are cetain you wont have an accident in it lol. Its great fun on a nice day, while holding its own in winter, though mistakes will cost you money. I would definitly recommend getting a 2003 onwards for the extras you get.
I personally have never been stuck for space luggage wise, though there are times when I wish I had brought a car with 4 seats :)
Advantages: Looks, quality and driving experience Disadvantages: Not surprisingly ... storage
...swiftly and courteously by the Toyota dealer and I would (and have) happily deal with them again. The body and roof are easy to clean and maintain and after three years of being parked outside showed no sign of fading. With the hood up fuel consumption is pretty good, but motorway driving with the top down will reduce your return noticeably.
Negatives:
The obvious one is storage space. This was not even a consideration when I was buying the car ... ...is enough room for a couple of (soft) weekend bags but nothing approaching a boot-sized space. When even the sales literature claims the glove box as significant storage space you know you're not getting much. The other problem I noticed was that some of my taller friends (6'2" plus) found themselves looking over the top of the windscreen, this isn't a problem for me but if you are tall this is definitely an issue. There is nothing else I would put ...

...you'd expect, is fantastic. Toyota have done a great job on the chassis and suspension. The suspension is well balanced for bumpy UK roads yet still provides a firm ride. Passengers are simply amazed at the ability to take bends at such ease! However, because the car is mid engined and rear wheel drive, some adjustment in driving is required from a "regular" front wheel drive. To avoid oversteer, you need to slow down as you take sharp bends at speed ... ...even sexier! Fortunately, Team Toyota Europe (TTE), based in Germany, do a range of classy enhancements that are available through your Toyota main dealer in the UK, supplied and fitted. Firstly, the 5 spoke 15" wheels, although nicely designed, are way too small for those huge arches which swallow them whole. I'd recommend 17"s on all four corners for a nice profile without impacting the ride. TTE also do a nice twin tailpipe polished exhaust system ...

...which took 3 weeks for Toyota to find and fix, and later on for part of the emission control system, which took a few days to fix. The serving was fairly reasonable, normally only £150 -£200 for each service, however it's appetite for tyres was less easy to live with, I was finding that I needed to replace all the tyres every 10,000 miles or so which soon adds up.
This car is perfect for someone who is looking for a nice sporty little number as ... ...to be seen in. However as an only car they are too small to carry any shopping in, too uncomfortable to go on very long journeys in. I got a good return on my purchase price when I sold mine, so they do seem to popular with buyers, and rightly so, I believe that there is a slightly 'face-lifted' model due out at the end of 2002, which might affect the price of the earlier ones. ...

Advantages: Wonderful performance and handling Disadvantages: Limited luggage space
...fortunate to drive was the Toyota MR2 and this really made my day. I do enjoy cars but I had never driven a mid-engined car before.
Here are my impressions of this wonderful car.
Looks
Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this beholder thinks the MR2 is beautiful. It has a superb low short body not dissimilar from the Porsche Boxster. Of course this is not a Boxster in performance or status but the Boxster would set you back twice ... ...the MR2 are probably more likely cars like the MGF or the Mazda MX-5 and in my humble opinion they just do not have the up-to-date look of the MR2. The old MR2 was still a good looker after 8 years of production and the new one looks as if it has enduring looks.
Performance
The MR2 I drove has an 1.8litre engine with a useful but not spectacular 138bhp. As it weighs less than a tonne its bhp per tonne comes out a shade over 140. Nowhere near as ...

...realised that this was a Toyota MR-2 Roadster. It was immaculate, a really clean and tidy, looked after car. The garage was actually closed when I was looking around, and I thought that I would go and check it out the following day. The actual design of the car is subtle - its a sporty looking car, without it actually looking like something from The Fast and Furious - covered in neons, and go faster stripes :-)
I took the registration number of ... ...had actually previously owned a Toyota Celica T-Sport 190 on a '51' plate - but I wont go into that one right now.
When I first got into the car, even though it is slightly lower than the Celica model that I had, the actual 'cockpit' and feel when you got in the car was the same. Even at just over 6 foot tall, I had plenty of leg room - and its that Toyota experience, where you just feel like your driving a slightly larger go kart. I started the ...

Advantages: You'll get more attention than you can handle. Disadvantages: Little baggage space make for complicated shopping trips.
I've fallen in love and as usual it's not with a man!!
Toyota's mid-engined MR2Roadster is my latest obsession. A divine two-seater sports car is a must for open-top driving divas. With it's aggressive stance and 15" alloy wheels, it's a real envy-inspiring head-turner, and unlike most soft-tops, maintains it's distinctive style whether the hood's up or down.
It's 16-valve engine can race to 60mph in under 8 seconds and a gorgeous interior offers everything you need - sports seats, alloy pedals, a three spoke leather stering wheel and a four speaker Sony stereo. ...

Advantages: beautiful; roomier than miata; Disadvantages: terrible HP and torque
MR2 Spyder is a 2 seater that will become the only roadster in Miata's price range.
Import enthusiasts are not unfamiliar with the name MR2. The car has the typical Japanese sports car history that begun in mid 80's. The original MR2 came to US first as a 4-banger geared at a young audience who couldn't afford insane insurance rates. The car was slow, but it looked sporty. Unfortunately, looking sporty was not enough, and soon we had a Turbocharged version of the MR2. Turbocharging is an expensive technology, and thus the MR2 started costing a ridiculous 30k. It fell from the market in mid 90's, suffering the same fate as Toyota Supra and Nissan 300ZX (and possibly what will happen to 3000).
Now the MR2 is being re-introducted with its originally intended outlook. Its a cheap roadster that your average Joe can buy, but with Miata in ...
