I bought my used 04 reg RAV4 D4D XT3 5D on 22/12/05 for £15,000.The milage was then 23,000 miles. Apart from what I consider to be expensive servicing costs,I have enjoyed trouble free motoring for the past two years, however having just had a 60,000 mile service during which the timing belt ... This review is dedicated to a Ciao great - the mad cabbie, with whom I had a conversation yesterday about matters motoring, in which the Toyota Avensis cropped up?..
??.it is not usually a model that tends to feature in bar room "mine's faster than yours" type conversations. But first, before getting to my own experiences behind the wheel of this particular vehicle, this being a RICHADA review a short anecdote:
Around this time last year, Mrs R. and two friends of ours had dinner in a very good pub restaurant near Blackburn in Lancashire. We requested to sit at our favourite table downstairs next to the big fish tank. The waitress very politely told us that regrettably the downstairs dining area was this evening reserved for the local ToyotaOwnersClub.
Toyota do make some exceptionally well built and legendarily reliable cars ...
Advantages: friendly, helpful, free, full of advice, parts for sale section, cars for sale section Disadvantages: none
A great place for Soarer (lexus/Toyota Soarer / SC400) owners to exchange information on some of the most underrated cars ever made.
The Soarer club is a font of information about mechanical, electrical, bodywork and all such aspects. You quickly get help from the regulars and its a great place to pick up parts in the unlikely event your Soarer goes wrong.
I joined just before I bought my Soarer and actually bought it from a member on there. I find it much friendlier than comparative places in the UK. The members are friendly and there is no membership fee.
Once registered, you have access to the variety of forums including General, Mechanical, Electrical, Bodywork, Ask the Members, Parts for Sale and Meetings and Events. There is a for sale section on the site where people can sell their Soarers which is well worth a look ...
Advantages: Cheap, fun, eyecatcher Disadvantages: some parts expensive or hard to get
People have said it shouldn't be reved high..Not true.
People have said it's not safe enough..Not true.
Some have called it too slow..(Maybe true at times).
Some have said that it has narrow tyres..Not true.
Well, a lot of miles behind the steering wheel of a 2CV have taught me a few things:
It's a great car, rust prone, but great.
But it has it's flaws and not all mechanics understands the way it's designed, oh it's logical enough but the mechanics tries to make it difficult. So a typical do it yourself car.
Buy one, join the 2CV-l group at yahoo and buy a Haynes workshop manual, also a good idea would be to join a 2CV or Citroen ownersclub..
Okay back to the car, so is it dangerous?
Compared to a Toyota 626 Mondeo, then it's not as safe..But compared to a lot of other classics of it's era, then it's relatively safe ...
