There isn't much that you can say about the Yaris that isn't good.
When buying the Yaris my partner and I looked around at various other cars in the class - Saxo, Swift, Punto to name three - and the Yaris stood head and shoulders above them all in my opinion.
The first thing that struck me about it was the build quality. The Yaris is very solid in comparison. All of the other cars seemed very 'tinny' when compared to the Yaris.
Not only was the car built better, but it seemd to be more responsive, better looking and being a Toyota I was happy that we would have many years of trouble free motoring with it.
I'll be honest the digital readout was also a big draw for us. For thos of you that do not know the Yaris, it has no dials behind the steering wheel. There is a centrally mounted electronic readout that contains the fuel readout, a rev counter, all of the indicator lights (i.e. temp, oil, battery etc) and the speedo - for gadget lovers it is great!
Even though the Yaris is small, the way that the rear seats fold forward means that there is an incredible amount of space available - the run to B&Q is still not a problem! Although that said you are not going to get a bath tub in the back.
The fuel consumption is incredible, ona bout 28 - 30 ukp of petrol I regularly get 400 miles from the tank. Mostly on the dual carriageway, but a fair amount of those miles are done around town too.
The car is now three years old, and apart from servicing the car has never had to visit the garage. Servicing costs are not too bad either - under 150 ukp for a full service.
The engine is very responsive (considering it's size) and it will cruise quite nicely at motorway speeds. The road holding is fantastic to, cornering at speed is not a problem.
The only real bad point for me is visibility. I find that the rear window is rather high and rather small, and the pillars are quite large too and can get in the way at times. Also the rear view mirror is enormous, and can sometimes get in the way when coming to junctions - however, my partner does not find any of these a problem, so maybe it is just me!
The S model that I have is rather basic where it comes to accessories though - no air con, a tape player instead of a cd player, no power steering ( although I do not find that a problem in the slightest. The Yaris is nice and light and so power steering is not really a requirement) but for the price i guess you shouldn't expect that much.
To sum up then, this car is ideal for those that commute and want a nippy little car that will reward you with a fun driving experience and VERY good fuel economy.

We looked at one of these once when trying to decide on a new car. I really liked it, Helen

Yes, I love my Yaris too - I've got the T-Sport, or 'Tea-Pot' as I've heard it unkindly called. I agree about the back windows - it's worse for me with the spoiler on the roof, it's like peering through a letter box when reversing. I've taken the rear head rests off until they're wanted. Also, another good sign, the T-Sport is stiffly sprung and still it doesn't rattle after a year's use, which bears out what you say about build quality. Chris

Ye, I drove a Yaris as a hire car for a few weeks. I found it was quite high up like riding a bus or something, and I agree with the visibility. Quite poor out of the rear view mirror! Good op!

Advantages: Fuel efficient, cheap on insurance and road tax. Good all round car for a small family or anyone who likes to be that little bit different. Disadvantages: I really cannot fault this car.
