Advantages: draws the cats to it like moths to light, really durable, easy to construct Disadvantages: expensive and only available direct from manufacturer (as far as I'm aware)
...of different posts available from Kalven we opted for Model 6, the 5 step scratching post in baby blue as the colouring matched that of our spare bedroom, the room where the cats like to sleep and because its size meant that they could both play without being on top of each other resulting in a huge furball fight. Standing just over a metre off the ground at its highest point the scratching post consists of 5 poles all of varying height that screw ......pole is a square platform that the cats love to claw their way up to, swing off or when feeling lazy curl up and sleep on. The base and platforms are wooden but coated in a hard wearing felt like material that is very much scratch resistant. It is thick enough for the cats to get their claws into making it very easy for them to climb while the actual poles are made from a toughened plastic coated in what seems to me to be a thick twine like material ... Advantages: The Cat will love it. Disadvantages: None
We have three cats in our household. There is mum, Millie and two of her kittens, Skoda and Lunah. Yep, I know silly names, but they had a reason behind them. I got Millie when she was around 8 weeks old. Too young to be in a pet shop in my opinion and the main reason I bought her. I had actually gone in to buy a hamster. Things were tough at first. She was clearly the runt of the litter. She had not been weaned properly and was quite ill, so after ......was scampering about like a normal kitten. I lived in a flat, which I agree is not ideal, and the reason I had gone to buy a hamster and not a cat. But my heart went out to her when she continuously meowed at me from her tiny cage. So I made sure she had plenty of fun and toys. She loved to play football, she loved to carry sticks, in fact maybe she thought she was a dog! I then got married and moved to a house. After the necessary jabs we let ... Read review
Advantages: Will keep cats entertained without any effort from you Disadvantages: After a while they will get bored with it and ignore it
I have three cats who were four and three years old when I purchased it for them. It is a yellow plastic mouse on a base with extending support on to which is attached a wand with a black fluffy mouse with tail attached. You switch it on by twisting the yellow mouse's nose and you can adjust the speed of the wand by twisting the nose further round. The wand moves erratically and thus it is quite challenging for the cats as it simulates 'real' prey. ......timer switch and there is also a Garfield version. Initially they simply loved it - the boys were very agressive with it chasing it around and catching the wand with the fluffy ball on the end. My girl was much more clever, she studied it for a while and then waited until the erratic movement brought it in her direction and then she caught it. It kept them entranced for about a week before they tired of it. Now I put it out of use for a week or ... Read review
Advantages: Fun for big kids Disadvantages: Kittens just didn't get it
After obtaining my two kittens I had seen these catnip bubbles advertised in various places. i eventually picked them up on the spur of the moment at petsathome. Having 2 kittens I'm always looking out for new toys to keep them interested. These days every cat day is infused with catnip, yet I've never had a cat that seemed particularly fussed about it, but I thought I'd give them a try. Blowing bubbles was fun for me, but the liquid is quite ......smelling bubble mix all down your front. The cats were vaguely interested but most bubbles had popped by the time they noticed them and because they are transparent I think they had a bit of trouble seeing them It didn't work for me, and I felt that it was a bit pricey for quite a poor quality bubble mix. But if your cat likes catnip you might have more luck. So far the my kittens favourite toys are plastic drinking straws, which they toss about ... Read review
Advantages: Cat's love them! Disadvantages: They get a bit revolting after a lot of chewing
Culpepers catnip or catnep toys are absolutely the best on the market. My cat is really fussy when it comes to toys, he has no interest in the usual catnip toys you can buy. However, give him a Culpepers catnip toy and he becomes a cat possessed! The toys are available in a fish shape, a mouse shape or for Christmas, a Christmas stocking. The fish is 11.5cm long, the mouse 13cm and the stockign 11cm. They are all made from cotton fabric and are ......are all sold for £2.95 and can be bought on Culpepers website, www.culpepers.co.uk. On the site search for catnep and not catnip. When my cat is given a new one, every six months or so, he goes loopy. He throws it in the air, completely savages it and makes the most hilarious snorting noises. They are worth buying just for that alone! He's not the only fan. The other day a neighbours cat came in and found the catnip fish on the floor. I found him ... Read review
