With flash memory coming down in price all the time, it pays to at least think about getting more than you need right at this moment. As the capacity goes up, so do the picture and video resolutions in the devices that use this memory, and the need for even more space increases too. I needed to more space as I recently purchased a Digital SLR camera that takes 10 megapixel photos.

Once you've formatted the card ready for use, there's about 15.5 GB of usable space left but even with 10 Megapixels being commonplace in digital cameras these days, the Transcend will swallow thousands of photos from your average digital camera and still have room for plenty of video too if your camera has that functionality. A 10MP photo will take up around 2.2MB meaning that the Transcend will gobble nearly 7000 jpeg images! Pretty staggering and ideal for long holidays - in fact even if you took one photo a minute all day and all night, it would take nearly five days to fill up the card!

The Transcend has another trick up its sleeve though - it's fast at reading and writing data. Rated at 133x, it's capable of writing data at nearly 20MB/sec meaning there's little if any delay between shots. This is important for users of digital SLR cameras as it increases the response time massively and allows for uninterrupted shooting. Using much slower cards could result in long delays after taking photos as the data is written to the flash card and I noticed a big improvement over an old CF card I had lying around.

So there you have it. Enough space to cater even for hyperactive photographers with twitchy fingers who've just drunk three cans of redbull and just seen Jessica Alba naked. Also enough speed to cope with the demands of the professional. All for just over two tenners with a lifetime warranty to boot.
