    Disadvantages Disadvantages absolutely no glamour in it, can be sporadic, odd hours.

    As part of my degree course in German and French there was, of course, a certain amount of translation work to do, and as well as doing the mandatory language classes that used translation assignments, I also took three modules in Translation Methodology. At the time I had no idea that I would end up making a living from translation, as I seemed destined for the bright lights of the then buoyant telecommunications industry.     Judging by my clumsy style, you won’t be surprised to know that the degree I have reads: Artistic Translation from Spanish to Russian, prose and poetry. Living outside Russia (and Spain), I certainly have very little future in particularly this profession. Notwithstanding, I have spent almost all my weekends for the last seven years translating restaurant menus, brochures, catalogues, contracts, private letters and all the other interminable stuff.
