The great thing about the Wii, is that you'll find games on the console that simply wouldn't be as good if they were released on a rival console. It is the master of innovativity. With the Wiimote, anything is possible. Fact is, Trauma Center: Second Opinion just wouldn't work on any other console. But it works on the Wii. It works very well indeed.
OK, you got me. Trauma Center Second Opinion is a Wiimake of the cult DS hit Trauma Center: Under the Knife. Just like the original, you play as Derek Stiles, an up and coming Surgeon who's just graduated from Med School. The year is 2018, and most of today's incurable diseases are now curable. You become more popular with the staff at your Hospital, and you soon find yourself head-hunted by Caduceus, the biggest Health Service in the world. Sadly, it's not all good news, because there's a new breed of terrorism in the future: Medical Terrorism. A group called Delphi have developed strains of a virus called GUILT, and you're one of only a handful of people who stand a chance fighting this new incurable disease.
Let's first get the obvious out of the way, Trauma Center is hard, very hard. If real life surgery is as hard as Trauma Center surgery, and no doubt it is, I have only respect for Surgeons. It is a hard game, but never an unfair game. Time and time again, you'll want to throw your Wiimote out the window in frustration, but you'll only end up going outside to pick it up, and have 'one more go' because you were so close last time. Only through finding out what you're doing wrong will you know how to improve. And believe me, you'll go back time and time again until you've finally got that operation done. Then you go through the exact same process on the next operation.
The best thing about the game is the control system. Everything is controlled via the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Different 'tools' are chosen with the Nunchuck, and each tool is assigned to a direction on the analogue stick. Once you know where each tool is mapped, you won't even have to look at choices on screen, but for the first few operations, you'll be looking at what implement you're wielding quite often. Each implement requires a different way of control, for instance, to use the tweezers you have to squeeze both the A and B buttons, cutting up things with the scalpel is a simple press of the A button and a straight movement, and suturing (stitching) is a zig zag pattern over the cut. There are other tools you can use, including a laser, syringes, a drainer, and new to the game, a defibrillator, each with their own unique way of using them. Partway through the game, you discover you have a special ability, called the Healing Touch. When used, time slows down, making the trickier parts of surgery that little bit easier, but it can only be used once per operation. Needless to say, once you've found out about your ability, you'll want to use it all the time!
Each operation has a strict time limit, so you have to go in, get the job done and get out pretty quickly. Making mistakes or prodding the wrong organs with a scalpel lowers your patient's/victim's health, so you've got to be careful with each movement you do. Good concentration is a must, and a lot of patience will get you a long way.The game's plotline is either great, or extremely cheesy, but that depends on whether you like soap operas or not. As you complete operations, your reputation as a Surgeon increases, meaning you'll move between different Hospitals, meeting more characters along the way. The game is split into chapters, and each chapter is divided into sub chapters. Each sub chapter can be an operation or another part to the storyline. As you progress through the game, you really begin to care about the different characters, and them dying on you isn't an option. Even though there are no videos in the game, and characters are represented by very basic cartoon-like images, there's still loads of feeling there, and all the characters are believable and seem real.
It's safe to say, the game doesn't look amazing, but it's never so bad that you can't see what you're doing or what you're prodding. Don't go expecting lifelike innards, this is on a Nintendo console after all! But don't let this put you off, you know what they say, beauty is only skin deep (sorry about that, had to be said). Graphics isn't the Wii's forte, it's all about experience and gameplay. Thankfully, Trauma Center has this is spades.
If like me, you have the original on the DS, you might be asking yourself if it's worth buying the remake. My answer to that is yes. The game controls much better on the Wii than what it did on DS, and there's a few extras thrown in, such as new operations, a side storyline and multiple difficulty settings. Honestly, this version makes the DS version obsolete, it's an improvement in every way.
In a nod to many TV shows based in Hospitals, a number of characters are named after people from series' such as ER and Scrubs. Try and find Turk!
My only fault with the game is a lack of any multiplayer, but the Single Player in itself can be treated like one. Try playing with one person holding the nunchuck (The Nurse) and one person holding the Wiimote (The Doctor). Scalpel please!
If like me, you bought a Wii because of the many things that can be done with the Wiimote, Trauma Center: Second Opinion is a great example of what can be done when a little thought is put into a game. It's an experience you'll be hard pushed to find on any other current-gen consoles, and surely that makes it worth a purchase. If you've an interest in Surgery or Simulation titles, or even extensive use of the word bastard, get this in, you'll have a blast. Unfortunately, time's past since this got a release, and with Trauma Center: New Blood, a brand new game in the series getting a release in 2008, you're probably better off waiting for that. Never the less, this is a title that deserves your time.

Their Lives In Your Hands
========================
Ever fancied yourself as a surgeon, with the patients life in your hands, one wrong move and it's curtains for them? Well now you can wield a scalpel with no chance of being sued for malpractice.
You play Dr Stiles, a gifted surgeon, and you perform various operations. He has a special gift called the healing touch that only
very few surgeons have, this basically means that he can slow down time.
... ...a parasite called
GUILT that has been introduced by a terrorist organisation. You become involved in finding a cure.
First things first, if you're worried about feeling queasy then don't be,
the graphics are more in the style of a manga cartoon here, with
mostly a 2D representation of the body.
The game is played with the remote wit the nanchuck attachment.
The nanchuck is used to select your instrument.

Advantages: varying operations, great fun and completely original Disadvantages: too much too read, lack of multiplayer
Trauma Center: Second Opinion on the nintendo Wii is a unique, original game that makes it alot of fun to play. Thne game is set in 2018 where many diseases have become curable, such as cancer, and you play a young doctor who tends to get critisized alot, and is trying to prove himself.
There is a wide range of surgical impliments avaible to use from stitching and a bandage to laser removal as well as 'instant healing gel'. The controls are simple ... ...operation from the simple like a laceration to the arm to the crazily extrovert like removing huge shards of glass embedded into the heart. There is plenty of longevity in this game with the operations getting progressively more complex and difficulty level changing. In the operation itself, the game tries to be as realistic as possible (considering cancer is apparantly a thing of the past) with you having to keep a watch on the patients vital signs, ...

Advantages: perform operations, completely different to everything else Disadvantages: Too much writing to read
Trauma Center on the Wii is a remake of Trauma Center: Under the Knife on the DS. Having played both versions the Wii version is the best.
This game is not however a straight forward remake. Some of the levels have been changed and there are special bonus levels involving a woman surgeon instead of the usual Dr. Stiles.
The game basically involves you taking control of different operations during with increasing difficulty as it progresses. It ... ...is used to select different instruments and the Wii mote is how you use them. This is a bit complicated at first as I was moving the cusor with the wiimote to the bottom of the screen to select the next instrument, when infact all I needed to do was move the Nunchuck stick in that direction. Once you have got used to this style though it is very good and makes switching between instruments very fast.
The graphics are good although nearly all of ...

****TraumaCenter: SecondOpinion for Wii****
I first played this game earlier this year after a friend had recommended it and i found it was addictive!!
Basically you play a doctor *dr derek styles* mainly and you have to "preform* surgical procedures on patients .You have to use the wii remote and there are tools on the screen that you have to change between.
What i liked
I thought that this game had a good story line that fitted well with the game and they also had different difficulty settings-if i get past normal i would use them.
It helps me with my memory as you have to remember what each tool does and the order to use them on procedures.
I thought the graphics were okay but i have bad eyes so others may disagree.
What i didn't
Some of the levels are really hard-you have to be really accurate.
It is a one player ...
Advantages: Great game, Brilliant use of both screens, especially the touch screen Disadvantages: Gets hard very quickly
Hospitals, meeting different characters along the way. The game is split into chapters, and each chapter is divided into sub chapters, which can be an operation or another part to the stroyline. It actually feels like a soap opera at times, and you really begin to care about the different characters. You can only save the game between each sub chapter, which can be quite infuriating if you're stuck on a particular operation, becaus you can't save halfway through an operation. If you fail, you have to redo the whole operation. And you will fail, that's inevitable. But like I said before, you'll have that 'one more go' feeling time and time again.
So in conclusion, you won't find TraumaCenter on any other console (ok I lie, TraumaCenter : SecondOpinion is being released on the Nintendo Wii later this year when it is released). But you ...
