Sahara is without doubt one of the best and most inspiring of Palins travel series. Palin's often hillarious descriptions of his experiences combined with the harsh realities of not only traveling but living in th deserts makes this book such a great read. I have read Shara after just completing Pole to Pole and Full Cirlce which are both fantastic reads but I found this one to be the best as it gave such a powerful insight into the lives of people living in one of the most reomote but amazing places on earh. ... Best read at altitude...
Review of Himalaya - Michael Palin by mr_kipling

Advantages: Gives you more than the TV show. Great Pictures
Disadvantages: Can leave you scratching your head for where he was in the show

...in sections, but is always respectful to the other cultures. A problem with it is the size. You have to read it at home because it's very heavy, and is not good for the train. If you have watched Himalaya on the TV, then you should definatley get the book. ... Read review
