Every cloud has a photographer's lining

Advantages: Unusual subject matter, amusing, nice arrangement of photos
Disadvantages: Some may dislike the "postcard" format

“NOT ANOTHER LAKE DISTRICT PHOTO COMPILATION?” Let’s face it, there are coffee-table books a-plenty about the Lake District. Pile them on top of each other and they would tower above Scafell Pike, right? Most contain a fair number of stunning photograph ...

The Wild Rover

Advantages: Makes me want to put my walking boots on, authors sense of humour
Disadvantages: Relatively poor quality illustrations, some subjects not covered in depth.

Bad Boys

Advantages: Well written, engaging read of parts less travelled
Disadvantages: May think other countries more worthy of inclusion.

I was delighted when, as a member of the Amazon Vine programme*, this book popped up on my list to order. I am a big fan on the Lonely Planet Guide Books and this seemed a bit different from the norm. The book is entitled Badlands: 'A Tourist on the axis ...
