I bought a speed Triple in May 2005 -Brand new from my local Triumph dealer (Woods of Abergele ) A dealer which I only have praise for as the service has been excellent
The Model i went for was the special edition with an all black frame and wheels - the extras such as the fly screen , belly pan and Radiator cowls all came fitted as standard
I have covered 2500 miles so far this year and been to a few rallies / events on it
Performance -After the running in period and first service the engine seemed to loosen up a bit (first service the semi synthetic oil gets changed for fully synth .) I have fitted a High level carbon can and had the fuel injection remapped The bike sounds much better than standard with a nice howl from the 3 cylinders the performance is good with plenty of midrange grunt if you liek to pop wheelies this bike is the dogs - first gear at 30mph shut the throttle then whack it open and the front comes up with ease
Handling - In my opinion the Triple is one of the best handling bikes ive ridden and i now tend to choose my routes by looking for the twistiest way possible Standard tyres are Bridgestone bt010's and these seem to be a perfect match for the bike The bike holds a perfect line round every corner with no wobbles or weaves whatsoever
Looks - I think the bike looks great and looks like its going fast even when standing still The black frame and wheels make the bike look mean and with the high level can the single sided swingarm is shown off
Finish - Not quite as good as id hoped as there are a few chips on the paintwork already - the Right hand mirror snapped during adjustment but this was replaced by the dealer free of charge with no fuss whatsoever
Practicality - I find the bike a pleasure to rideand great fun but a i tend to use it at weekends and not on a daily basis On longer yourneys (over 100 miles ) my arse gets a bit numb but hopefully a gel seat will remedy this I use the bike for rallies and use oxford throwover panniers this fit well even with the high exhaust The mirrors are a disgrace all you can see is your elbows these are by far the worst feature of the bike , No one in the Triumph factory could have actually sat on the bike and tried to look behind them using the mirrors -
I wont comment on fuel consumption as i can never be arsed to work it out - it does about 150 miles untill the fuel warning light comes on
Ill update the review as time goes by
