~ ~ Triumph was an old, indigenous UK car manufacturer who later went on to become part of the British Leyland Group of companies, back in the (good old?) days when there was still such a thing as an indigenous UK car manufacturer. They were well made motorcars, and in fact I passed my driving test in an old Triumph Herald 12/50 way back in 1968. Maybe that's why I've always had a wee bit of a soft spot for them. ~ ~ Triumph were also renowned as manufacturers of sports cars, the best known of which were probably the Triumph Spitfire, the Triumph GT6, the Triumph Stag, and two later models ... more

Advantages Advantages A piece of history, a genuine sports car

Disadvantages Disadvantages You need to be commited

I have just bought my second Spitfire. However, both are going to be a project to keep me sane. The Triumph Spitfire is a true example of British 1960's - 70's sports car. The Spitfire came in various guises, The Spitfire 4, Spitfire Mk II, Mk III, Mk IV, Mk V and GT6 (I think there may be a few more as well!) The Triumph is based on a real chassis with a 'body tub', hinged bonnet and wings. The dashboard is normally walnut, with old-style leather seats. Advantages Advantages Cheap insurance and purchase price, an investment, easy to maintain, looks cool.

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's old and so you have to take it easy, you'll have to get breakdown cover.

I didn't have much to spend and was looking for something that I could sell at a later date and not loose too much money on. After performing a number of searches on Autotrader.co.uk I found Triumph Spitfires to be the only choise for me. They are very cheap - around £3000 for a decent one, are convertible, spares are easily available, insurance is cheap (£300) and they look very cool indeed - I get far more reaction from my roaring 1500cc than any Boxster or TT. Mine is a '68 Mark 3 ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Looking, Cheap, Sound Great

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can have a few problems

Im am 14 and I wnted a car to do up and mod. I didnt want what must teenagers wanted. I didnt want large spoilers a large exhaust system. Im wanted something with a bit of class maybe a convertable. While flicking through the auto trader I spotted the most gorgeous 2 seater convertable. It had style a luxury interior and a 1.5 Litre engine, It would thrash the other lads Novas. I had to get one but at £3500 they were a bit pricey. After I spotted it I told my Dad about it and he persuaded me to buy a restoration project. You dont pay that much for it and you can learn loads while doing it, it ... more
