TrueBlood is the new HBO, Vampire TV series made by the people who brought us 'Six Feet Under'. The first season has only just started in America, but I'm sure it won't be too long before it heads over to somewhere like E4. The show is based on the series of books, 'Sookie Stackhouse, Southern Vampire Series' by Charlaine Harris.
The show is starts in a time, at the creation of a new synthetic blood (called 'TruBlood') by Japanese scientists, giving the opportunity for the Vampire folk to 'come out of the coffin' (yes, they actually use that turn of phrase) and live amongst the humans for the first time in history. As the Vampires don't need human blood anymore, there is no reason for humans to fear them. Set in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, we meet Sootie (Anna Paquin) who has the ability to read people's mind. Her psychic abilities make her feel like an outcast, and thus, is of the pro-vampire opinion, as she knows what it feels like to be an outsider. We meet her brother Jason (Home and Away's Ryan Kwanten - he played Vinnie, remember?) who is a sexual fiend who likes to take his top off, get his bum out and have sex as much as he can (by the way, there is A LOT of sex in this show). British actor Stephen Moyer plays Bill, the first Vampire we meet, who has an unusual chemistry with Sootie.
The thing I like about this series, is that it is like a drama that uses a fictional topic, such as Vampires, seriously. I was never able to watch Buffy as I found it too 'comic book' with the strange looking demons popping up everywhere, but TrueBlood is much more, dare I say, believable…more along the lines of 'Interview With A Vampire', I'd say.
I love the political undertones of this show too. Especially the reactions and prejudices of the humans against the Vampires, as they look down their noses at them and express their disgust. The insecurity for a Vampire to 'come out', clearly parallels the struggles and insecurity of a lot of gay people trying to accept themselves and be brave enough to tell people.
All in all, I like this show. It has a few cheesy moments, but generally is made very well. The acting is good, I was quite surprised to see someone like Paquin (X-Men, The Piano) in a TV series, following her CV full of Hollywood films, but she plays Sootie well. Kwanten isn't the best actor I've ever seen, but he is convincing and looks good, so who cares, right? Moyer is superb as Bill, it's worth checking out the show for him alone. I'm not as 'into' the series as was for example when LOST started, but I do find myself tuning in, if it's on TV.

When Andrew told me about this series I was quite excited about watching because I thought it would be on a par with the film 'Twilight'. After watching the first in the series I realised how very wrong I was; it was totally, totally different in a lot of ways! Here we have a series that is about vampires which have integrated into society and wildly accepted (by some) as part of everyday life. The Japanese have invented a drink that comes very close ... ...on. As with most series it follows an array of different characters including Bill who is a vampire, Sookie who isn't, Jason who is Sookies brother and Teyra who is Sookies best friend. Some of the characters in the series have special powers which become apparent as time goes on. I find that this series is very much like Gavin and Stacey in that the main characters are very weak over all. I feel that Sookie is rather dull and although they try to ...

Advantages: Good idea for a show. Disadvantages: Its like soft porn, those accents, the gore - it is all too much.
I have seen all the Adverts, and heard about this award winning show everywhere I seem to turn over the last few weeks. After reading a lot of really positive reviews about True Blood, and with it billed as the grown up Buffy and Twlight, I was sold and purchased the season 1 box set, I got snuggled on the sofa that evening with a hot chocolate and biscuits (yes I am getting old I know) and was started the first episode.... The show follows the residents ... ...waitress, and her Vampire friend Bill. A formula called Tru Blood has been developed in Japan which allow Vampires to live amongest Human, although these are many issues this raises for both the Vampires and humans. Some vampires do not want to stop drinking human blood, many live in the shadows of the community as they are not welcome and still seen as dangerous, and there is racism towards them. They also bring with them a new "Drug" which is called ...

Advantages: Explores some interesting themes. Well acted. Disadvantages: Too many storylines happening at once.
At the time of writing, vampire themed movies and TV shows seem to be going through a resurrection (pun intended). It's been a long time since the days of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spin-off series Angel but in an era where vampires have been romanticised as sparkly, bleeding-heart saps thanks to the Twilight books and movies, does True Blood have what it takes to bring new life to the genre? Like Twilight, True Blood also originates from a series ... ...and it also focuses centrally on the romance between a human and a vampire but that's really where the comparisons end. The main protagonist is Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress working in a bar called Merlotte's in the small, fictional town of Bon Temps in Louisiana. Sookie isn't just any ordinary girl though, she possesses the ability to read people's minds. Unfortunately for Sookie this is more of a curse than a gift so it's a huge relief when she ...

True Blood has finally arrived in the UK after two successful seasons in the United States. I came across this series by accident when I was flicking through the channels on Virgin Media and noticed that this was on one evening... I eagerly went to HMV the following day to purchase it (don't you agree it is so much better to watch a series on DVD rather than have it interrupted with adverts) only to discover that it is not available in the UK as ... ...however, have the first episode for £1.99 to buy. so I decided that represented good value for money. The first thing I would say about this first episode is that it feels like it is a lot longer than 53 minutes, which is actually a really good thing. During the initial opening we are introduced to a raft of main characters, the waitress who can read minds (handy if you know how they feel about you in advance of serving I suppose) a bar manager who ...

Advantages: Very entertaining, good story, good mix of characters Disadvantages: For Some: Quite a bit of blood & under the sheets action (except not under the sheets)
I am coming into the True Blood TV series a little late really but I have watched all of season one and most of season two online.
=== Classification/Content/Rating ===
I think the first thing to say after seeing Twilight mentioned in one of these reviews, and having watched Twilight last night, is that True Blood is far more explicit in every sense of the word with a lot of blood, biting, a fair amount of nudity or semi nudity and a level of sex. ... ...===
Sookie Stackhouse has an unnerving gift/curse, works as a waitress, lives with her grandmother after her parents were killed in a flood in a small Louisiana village called Bon Temps. Her brother lives nearby (a bit of a casanova). The Japanese have invented a blood replacement drink (in a variety of blood types) that has enabled vampires to live among humans but this presents problems of their own, e.g. vampire/equal rights, violent vampire ...

Much better than it's sister show Casualty. It is an hour long show that is split between a surgical ward and the cardiac unit. Each ward has its own team of doctors, nurses and surgeons. In this current series, it now features the childrens ward too.
It is more true to life than Casualty, and although it features on the operations and not so much peoples private life, it's not all blood and guts. Even the most squeamish person could watch this.
Dr Mike Barratt who was in Casualty a few years ago, has re-surfaced in Holby City and is just as good and charmingly sexy as he was previously.
I do miss Michael French in the show, but I think the writers have adapted it nicely without him now. ...
Advantages: Tea is just so AHHHHHHHHH Disadvantages: The dust
of room are true. Try them alongside more conventional shaped bags and you will notice a difference. But are tea bags all they are cracked up to be. Well remember the best cuts of the tea bush will always go into leaf tea. This is because tealeaves have to look like leaves or people will notice. Each tea bag contains about 30% dust, legacy of the fact they are swept up from the factory floor. Make a cup with fresh water under a bright light and you can see the dust infuse out.
Why do we usually take milk with tea? The answer to this is simple and any true caffeine addict will know this. Tannin binds to the caffeine and hinders its absorption into the blood stream. Milk frees 50% of the caffeine by competitively binding to the tannin, releasing the caffeine and it gives you a better hit. Sugar adds to the taste but adds a sugar rush to ...

between the modern Sam and old fashioned Gene. He is almost shy and a bit docile
great info and clips from episodes from both series 1 and 2 on the website
im am completely taken by this programme the life likeness on the programme is so true to the seventies and the makers have paid alot of attention to detail. An added bonus for me was when filming the second series they film some scenes close to where I live in Bolton.
I totally recommend this programmed to everyone especially to those who grew up in that era it will get that nostalgic blood flowing
This is a true drama it hits your heart and soul...and has great comedy within it also. The best drama of the past 10 years by far!!!!!!!! ...
