The big problem with the battery of a PSP is that unlike the main competition (GBA, NDS) which have great battery life, the PSP does not; in fact you'll get barely more than 2 hours out of it. With this in mind I was quite intrigued by the powermaster battery that offers considerably more charge for your pound.
Plus's often come with minus's and the first minus is the size of this battery; in short it's a damn size bigger than the one that comes as standard. So much bigger its sticks out considerably more too. This forms part of issue number two, it's now more awkward to hold. Once you got used to the size of the standard battery having this big monster sticking out the back comes as quite a shock. Shocks go hand in hand with annoyance, the battery pack now feels loose so loose that you often actually pull the battery off by accident, this can be highly annoying when your half way through a game. Sometimes the battery does not even have to come off to wreck your fun, one wiggle too many and its shut down city.
There is only one real plus in my mind, and it's a big one; the time a battery will now last you. Double the size will give you double the play length, or so I assumed. I was most impressed when in fact I discovered that on average I get about 12 hours game play from a single charge; this makes all the difference when your really into an exciting game.
Charge time of the battery depends on how close to flat lining the battery is, but on average 3 hours gives the battery a full charge from being practically flat.
Is the powermaster worth the £14 -£20 you can pay for it (incidentally I purchased mine from discount retailer Buyology for the princely sum of £8) from most places? The bad out weight the good, its not a good purchase for an action packed game. But a slower paced game, or a movie then the battery could be worth a purchase. So in short it depends on your style and use of your PSP. For me the battery is near on useless, but to someone else it could be a salvation. My tip is to wait until a more compact battery hits the market.
