The Trust Universal Adapter truly is universal. It comes with a wire to which you can connect one of 6 notebook plugs or 9 other connectors for most phone models or iPod. These attach to another wire which can be attached to the main box, meaning you can charge your mobile or iPod while using it to power your laptop. At around £30 on some internet sites or large shops, the adapter is certainly affordable and cheaper than other Trust Universal Adapters with a higher watt capacity (take the 120W one at over £40). If 90W is really all you need, there is no reason why you should not go for it.

Trust, an electronic gadget company, has provided me with Trusty and affordable electronic bits and bobs for years. Much of their catalogue is basic but practical in nature - I remember a small spycam I had when I was younger about the size of a cigarette lighter, and a USB webcam that did its job perfectly, all with accompanying and handy software.
When my Acer Aspire 5101 laptop adapter (charger) began deteriorating before Christmas, I had a bit of a panic attack. Not only are Acer chargers for my model less than readily available (at the very least, I would have needed to order off the internet and go through the stress of making sure I was home - which I never am - when it was delivered), but a few educated internet reviews of my Acer adapter by engineers/techies made me realise the adapter itself is poorly designed, with little support on the wire near the computer plug meaning the copper inside the wire's insulation can bend and break easily. I had had mine for a little over a year. I was not willing to shell out £30 on the net for another poorly designed adapter, so I went to my local electronics store and came across this universal adapter.
One of the 6 notebook connectors should work with the vast majority of notebook models, even if not specified (you can always email customer support and enquire beforehand). I myself tried a few which certainly worked while charging my laptop but were slightly loose - until finding out that the 6th one was perfect for my model. You can charge your iPod by plugging the USB end of its existing charger to a recipient connector provided. Though some of the mobile chargers fit into my own phone, none of them would charge it (I own an old Sharp GX15) which didn't bother me too much as I know Sharp-compatible products are rare and really only bought the adapter for my laptop.
The Adapter has a maximum 90W capacity, which for my model was more than enough, and the voltage can be adjusted by a small switch on the side of the box (15/16/18/19/20/22 or 24…in the Acer case 19). My only reservation is the size of the box, which at 13.40 cm high and 5.80cm wide was about twice the volume of my old adapter. Still, it fits into my laptop case and is a small price to pay for a truly handy gadget. Lastly, the box has a small blue light on it which illuminates when it is powered up - very handy, and helps you remember to unplug the mains from the wall if you are not using it to charge your laptop (which I have heard drains power even with the appliances turned off or disconnected).
Because the connector heads can be swapped and are attached by means of two pins that fit into two holes in the wire body, it seems as if this is a prevention against the design fault of my previous adapter. I highly suspect it was the wire right at the base of the computer connector that got bent and broken, and I don't see how the same can happen with the Trust model.
At around £30 on some internet sites or large shops, the adapter is certainly affordable and cheaper than other Trust Universal Adapters with a higher watt capacity (take the 120W one at over £40). If 90W is really all you need, there is no reason why you should not go for it.
All in all, I am ecstatic with my buy - it is a perfect charger for my Acer (possibly better than the one supplied) and friends and relatives can use it to charge their models or phones/iPods as well. Moreover, it will always be there as a back-up in case a future laptop of mine, of a different make, ever needs a new charger! Trust once again lives up to its name.
