=Intro = Tsunami has been traditionally producing cases, speakers and desktop manager (mice+keyboard+speakers). In the recent years, TSUNAMI seems to have moved away from the budget/lower range products and concentrating more on offering unique, innovative, artistic and quality products. They are even Intel exclusive partner for specialist chassis design. Today I have one of their 3.5" hard drive enclosure with me for testing - speed 3500. The version that I got in my hand supports both ide and sata hard drive.
=The Package= Comes in color retail box with plenty of feature lists to give you a good idea what you are buying. The box is simple, but its very robust and will ensure the safe transport of the unit (even if you have a hard drive in). Also enclosed with foot stand (to position the device vertically or horizontally), USB2.0 cable (a thick one, seems quality), external power supply (seems to work perfectly and quietly), user manual (clear intro and installation guide) and hard drive screws (to fit your own hard drive to the enclosure, note: a lot of other manufacturers don't provide them).
=Overview and Insight= Tested the enclosure with one 80gb ide hard drive and one 250gb sata hard drive. Very easy to install. I guess, there's probably nothing much one can test with a hard drive enclosure. The quality indicator of a hard drive enclosure will probably be its power supply. It 'feels' kind of OK and I haven't received many return of this model to our department yet (unlike many other cheaper range of enclosures).
=Conclusion= I was very impressed with speed 3500 in general. Not only does it look good but it also has some wonderful extras like foot stand, anti-shock design. Personally, I think its fair to say that speed 3500 is in the 'mid-high end' of hard drive enclosure. However, I guess the only few things that potential buyers might care would probably be the price and whether it can fit my unwanted hard drive from the old case'. Would recommend others to check out other TSUNAMI hard drive enclosures. Basically, I think the quality is there (for tsunami enclosures), just a case of choosing the right color, outlook design, accessories, features that best suit your life style (and budget).
