Review of Gemini XL300 Turntables - Bedroom Djs!

Advantages: Great For Beginners & Very Durable
Disadvantages: Not For Advanced DJs

...Less than 0.20% WRMS # Gemini Slip mats N/B: In the product information it states these are belt driven! They are not! They are direct drive. Gemini's affordable direct drive turntable is one of the most competitive turntables in it's class, sold alongside the Citronic PD-1, the Gemini XL300 is a great intermediate turntable! These are the first turntables I have ever bought, and their affordable price is very appealing for a beginning DJ. I've ...
...they still work fine. They are very durable; I've dropped them and had beer spilt over them and they are still as good as new. These decks are very suitable for taking to parties to earn some money as a DJ. You'll never need to worry about replacing the belt or the belt slipping during a recorded mix, since they are direct drive (I would recommend only buying direct drive turntables - they provide large torque and better control over the record!). ...

Hey Mr DJ

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: ....Cheap

...names in DJ equipment.... and Gemini is not one of them. If your serious about it, then the 2 names to look out for are Vestax and Technics. However, I was only starting out, and could not afford the fantastic kit knocked out by these guys. Decks 101 ---------------- Firstly I'm just gonna give you a little theory on decks, just so that I don't baffle you with jargon a bit later. There are 2 main types of turntable (or "Decks"), belt-drive and ...
...a good pitch control. The Gemini is blessed with +/- 10% pitch control, which means it can speed up or slow down the record by up to 10%. The response from these is sluggish, however, and as such matching speeds is harder than it needs to be. As a side note, the pitch control on one deck has been faulty since I bought these - over +8% and it actually slows down! Bizarre. Anyway. Now the deck could be excused for having a sluggish response time ...

Awesome Decks for beginners.

Advantages: Direct Drive, Straight arm (preference) hard wearing
Disadvantages: torque not as good as 1210's

...a couple of sets of gemini decks and then the tt04's. I have many friends who say that 1210's are the golden standard in DJ equipment and they are right. However there is no point going for these unless your serious. I love mixing but I am not serious about it so I got the tt04's. I was suprised to find that they are quite close to 1210's in feel. They have a high torque motor which mean bringing those tunes in dead on time is easier. Not quite ...
...was nice to see that they had done something different in terms of presentation of the pitch slide with a metal plate surrounding this giving it a nice aesthetic design. In terms of accuracy the pitch slide is spot on. Standard buttons such as the 36/48/72 rpm are there as well as a good target light. However the target light is easy to damage so be careful if you are as clumsy as me. Also as standard adjustable height/weight of the tone arm enables ...

Gemini XL-100

Advantages: Good to start with
Disadvantages: Belt Drive

I brought the Gemini XL-100 turntable's for my son a few years ago when he first started getting into spinning disk's. They taught him well and is now using direct drive turntable's as he say's that they are much better for mixing with, but he does not have a bad word to say about the Gemini XL-100's, It's just that they are belt drive and he would rather use direct drive now. As i said i brought them a few years now and i can honestly say that ...
...Features:- +/- 6% Ptich Control Strobe Illuminator Soft-touch start/stop switch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I and my son would recomend these turntable's to anyone just starting to get into dj'ing, as i said before they are good turntable's and have never let him down, we would definatly buy Gemini again. ...

Not for DJing!

Advantages: High quality sound. Anti-skating and tonearm weight preadjusted so no expertise needed.
Disadvantages: Not for DJing

...not designed for that. The Technics SL-BD22 provides audiophile quality record playback for an extremely low price. I have used a lot of record players in the past and the quality of playback this provides is equivalent to other players that have cost £500+. It does feature a pitch control, like most DJ equipment, which may have caused the confusion, but this is meant for fine adjustments only, for example to correct the speed of a poorly mastered ...
