Sorry guys I know this is a game that EVERYONE knows about and most people have played but I eventually bought it for my daughter today and had to do a bit of a review on it...

For anyone out there that has been in hibernation for the last couple of decades, this is what Twister is all about.
"The game that ties you up in knots!"

Basically as it says on the box, the last one standing wins!!! This game consists of a plastic mat with 6 of each of 4 different coloured large dots and a spinner. You have to spread the mat out on the floor and get spinning! The spinner has different options on it for where you put your limbs on the plastic mat ie. left hand, right hand, left foot and right foot and the seperate colours. It depends on the different options that the spinner throws at you as to how difficult a position you end up in! The idea is to get between 2-4 players on the mat (although can be fun but difficult with more!) and try to stay upright the longest. You have one person spinning the spinner and shouting out the moves (the ref), or if there are only two players you can shout out moves without using the spinner, to the other player. The game should normally last around 10 minutes.

The rules are:
  • Only one hand or foot per circle! The first player there occupies the circle.
  • Once you've made your move, you cant move again unless the ref gives permission to move a limb to let another player through.
  • If all six circles of one colour are taken, spin again
  • If the ref calls a hand/foot colour combination you're already doing, you must move your hand or foot to a different circle of the same colour (if all six are taken, spin again)
  • If a knee or an elbow lands on the mat, or you fall over (as I have done many times!) you're out.

There are many ways of playing apart from the basic game. They are as follows:

Twisting Turns
I think this is the basic game where the ref shouts out the moves and players take it in turns to make the moves on the mat. You can end up very tangled!

Teaming up
Lots of players? Split into teams (pairs work best).
Team members can share the same circle. As soon as one player falls over or touches the mat with a knee or elbow, the other team has won.

Twister Tournament
Each team plays every other team in the league. Keep score of victories and defeats to see which team will triumph!

Twister knockout
Play Twister the knockout challenge way. The winning team stays on the mat and takes on new contenders until all the teams have played. The last team standing wins.

I think that this game is absolutely fantastic. It is fun to play with the kids or if family come round, but add a bit of alcohol and you can only imagine the laughs you can have. Yeah I know its designed for kids, but us parents are entitled to a bit of fun too! I can't wait for friends to come round for a drink now as this game is definitely surfacing.

If this game is just a childhood memory to you, I would highly recommend going out and buying yourself one. I haven't laughed so much in ages and if my husband wouldn't kill me for it, I would add some photos of him twisted up on the mat to my review (ones of me are getting deleted as soon as I get my hands on them!). I bought this game in tesco for a bargain £9.11 although I had seen it included in many offers around Christmas time, as much as I tried, eventually I couldn't resist.
