Great for outdoor activities
Advantages: Easy to use, inexpensive, very useful, great for emergencies Disadvantages: Better battery life would be welcome, as would improved range in hilly environments
I just spent a week using Talkr T5s whilst on a skiing holiday in France. They were used to stay in contact with my friends on the mountain, and also carried in case of emergency. Handset range is very much dependant on conditions. Whilst the 6km maximum range can be achived, in practice this was often greatly less if there is something large between the transmitter and reciever. Typically reception was good if my friends were on the same side of ... ...valley then we got no reception at all. The sub-channel system works well, and means that you have much more chance of finding a channel that no-one else is using. We used channel 7-13, which meant that we could only hear channel 7-13, and only people using either 7-13 or the whole 7 channel could listen in. Broadcast quality varies, but is roughly landline phone quality assuming that you are "in range".
The handsets are easy to use, especially ...

Motorola T4502 Two-Way Radios
Advantages: Small, lightweight, easy to use. Disadvantages: Uses 3 AAA batteries per radio, instead of a rechargable 'battery pack'.
...I wanted to use) ~
Motorola (from the makers of the V3 RAZR mobile phone) T4502 (Tiny4502???) 8-channel (or 8-frequency) PMR (Professional / Personal Mobile Radio). [It's too long for the box -- LoL!]
Wow, what a great little two-way radio!
I've had my Nectar Card for a good while and I am also a member of a survey company called "TNS" who award points for completing surveys and you can link your "TNS" account to your Nectar Card then get your ... ...facing downwards) to 'flip' (Clearly Motorola like to make products that "flip" open) the battery compartment open. There is also a very light indentation of "T4502" on one side of both of these keys and a loop for attaching to set of keys, a keyring or something similar.
(Yikes this is a long review...well done for reading this far down!)
With a range of 5 km or 3 miles, they're at the lower end of the scale compared to other radios of this type ...

Walkabout with a Talkabout
Advantages: No Call Charges, Call signal, Scan function Disadvantages: Price
...current evolutionary tree is the Motorola Talkabout t6222 and it was a pair of these that a group of friends and I took on a recent holiday in the Lake District. In the box that each handset comes in (you have to buy them seperately), you get a handset, manual and belt-clip. the manual can only be described as 'brief', telling you the bare minimum you need to get up and running with precious little detail on anything else. Fortunately the handsets ... ...the palm of the hand. Motorola tout the unit as being shock and splash proof. having dropped one of mine in a shallow puddle, i can vouch for this. Having said that, the unit is not actually waterproof so if you submerse it in water, it WILL break. With a full set of 3 AA batteries fitted it is heavier than a mobile but not massively so, tipping my kitchen scales at 200g. You can use either standard batteries or rechargeables. Standard alkaline batteries ...

Testing,Testing, 1-2-3......
Advantages: Quality sound, Disadvantages: Heavy, Bulky,
These Walkie-talkies are a amazing invention of the 21st century. A free way to communicate is a great advantage for all buisnesses needing communication in a short distance. At a reasonable price for 2 recievers (about £50), you will be able to save a small fortune on short calls between employees and other members of staff at which ever business you are working/supervising.
Having 8 channels is great as you can have many walkies operating on different ... ...floor.
Having not being able to test the full capability of the distance of these walkie talkies, i can only say that they reach a distance of 1mile with no problems what-so-ever.
Having being dropped many a time at where i work, it has not effected the working quality of these walkies and they continue to work to a high standard. The rubbery outershell helps the ruggedness of the product last for a longer period of time compared to other walkie-talkies.

A quality robust 446 Radio from Motorola
Advantages: Robust, User Friendly, Good features Disadvantages: Fairly expensive, no vibrate, expensive accessories
Motorola T5512
Overview
The Motorola T5512/22 is a short-range two-way radio, which operates on the PMR446 frequency giving 'up to 3km'. These radios can be used across Europe and are an ideal way to keep in contact with friends, family and colleagues for a range of activities. These radios are at home with Sports Centers, Skiing Holidays, Building Sites, Family Holidays and more.
The 5512 are available singularly or as a double pack in blue. ... ...as flexible as other models. Motorola don’t actually make this radio themselves (its made by Maxon) but it certainly has the quality of a Motorola radio.
The quality and range achieved is very good, with the same stated range and power as other radios and I would say matches the T6222 in being one of the better radios for this. It would be misleading for me to give figures as they would only be a guess and the range varies greatly with atmospheric ...
