Dream Theater + Symphony X at the civic hall wolverhampton
Review of Wolverhampton Civic Hall by SpasticFish

Advantages: Great Sound.... Easily Located and VERY cheap
Disadvantages: trains arnt in sync with gig finish times (N)

...noticed when i got to wolverhampton is that the venue is really easy to find... the queue for the venue was rather small with only 20 odd people waiting... but it was an hour before the doors were due to open bare in mind... it came to opening time and the place was pretty busy behind me by now... the doormen were rather quick at either scanning tickets or taking the stubbs off you and if you had a bag it was a quick rifle thru to check you had no ...
...merch stalls as you do.... got a tshirt and beanie and was rather happy =] dad on the other hand went straight to the bar on the left hand side of the venue and got 2 pints.....(typical) so being early for the gig payed off tbh as i got to the 2nd row as the hall was filling up.. (RESULT!!) after a couple of songs i managed to mosh my way to the barrier... the sound was great....EXTREAMLY loud...just how i like my metal =] got to arround 11 and i ... Read review

Brixton Academy
Review of Brixton Academy by madraykin_kiss

Advantages: Slopping floor, decor is pretty :), reasonable bar prices, acoustics are very good
Disadvantages: Rough area, gets a bit hot

Brixton Academy is easily one of the best venues, especially in London, and has been voted as such on many occasions, including the NME 'Best Live Venue' award in 2007. It can get hot, but you do expect that when going to a gig... The best thing about the venue (I think) is that it has a slopping floor. There's nothing worse than going to see a band you love and then not being able to see because everyone in front of you seems to be 7foot tall. ... Read review

Ballerinas In Floaty Dresses.
Review of Sadler's Wells Theatre by starsally

Advantages: Breathtaking
Disadvantages: Make sure you read the right synopsis.

I want to be a ballerina and wear whooshy dresses and dance on my pointes and glide around like a magical fairy princess. I want all the little girls to want to grow up to be just like me and all the big girls to want to be me… Off I would glide into the air on the shoulders of a muscular bloke in spandex and then I would twirl and twist and tilt and twirl some more. Remember reading all the children’s novels like ballet shoes. All of them spoke ...
...ballerinas go. The central nerve centre of girls hopes and dreams… If I do all my bar work and pirouettes then maybe, just maybe I will one day perform at Sadlers Wells. ~THE THEATRE~ In the 1680s Sadlers Wells was a music venue and since then has been a panto venue, a cinema variety venue and dramatic theatre. In 1925 Lillian Ballis came along who upped its standing and made it a well respected venue. There is a secondary theatre named after her ... Read review

The best rock performer in the world ever
Review of Lancashire Cricket Ground, Old Trafford by daveops

Advantages: Brilliant gig
Disadvantages: Gimme my water back

...end, but the home of Lancashire County Cricket had to get a magistrate to grant them a licence to hold the event, after neighbours objected. Give that magistrate a knighthood! For those of you who know the place, consider the bowler at the Warwick Road end of the ground bowling to a right handed batsman. The stage was at third man and the evening sun set behind fine leg an hour or so in to the gig. We paid £10 to park in an unofficial car park ...
...or drink was allowed to be taken inside, ensuring massive profits for the hosts on the hottest day of 2003 so far. Programmes, at £10 a time, were high quality paper with nil quality content and typical tour t shirts sold at £24 a time. The money making machine that had already claimed £42 per ticket was in full swing, typified by the rather nasty gesture of removing plastic bottles of water from people outside the ground, to charge them £2 for a ... Why, why must Refectory be Leeds' biggest venue?!
Review of The Refectory (Leeds University) by tomhughes

Advantages: Attracts relatively big-name bands, convenient location
Disadvantages: Terrible venue, no air-con, poor facilities, ill equipped.

...name bands simply because of the lack of a venue big enough to attract them. Now Leeds has some brilliant venues, like the Cockpit, Joseph's Well and the Met but none of these reach a capacity of over 1000 which is essential for larger bands really. Then all of a sudden, there was a new player on the scene. Part of the Leeds University campus, The Refectory offered capacity of over 1000 with big names to match. Had my prayers been answered?! BANDS ...
...and Less Than Jake at the Refectory. Were it not for these superb bands having played there it would probably get 1 star. Coming soon are Ash and Maroon 5, and the place seems to have little trouble attracting other big names. Sure, you're not gonna get arena-style bands here but small-mid range reasonably well known rock bands are a formality. TICKETS - Tickets for upcoming gigs can be purchased in advance from most ticketing websites (like www.seetickets.com) ... Read review
