I bought this camera off a shopping channel on TV for £82 about 18 months ago. It is a 4in1 Digital Camera, Digital Camcorder, Web Cam & a Dictaphone. It's quiet a light and compact camera and easy to use but the user guide that comes with it is very basic and doesn't tell you how to use all the features so we haven't used anything but the camera yet so we need to experiment with it a bit more.
I was keen to get things up and running and took loads of photos of the kids and the dog if they stayed still long enough, I say that because there is a delay of a couple of seconds when you press the button until it actually takes the photo, two seconds is long enough for a dogs to run off or kids being kids to get their finger up their nose or something as gross. After driving everyone mad by flashes going off in their face I thought I would see the fruits of my labour.
The installation was really quite easy because we had Windows ME and to my supprise for a camera that is at the cheaper end of the scale for a digital camera the photos were actually not to bad appart from the ones of the back end of the dog( in the 2 seconds they had to get away).
THEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED
After a few months we decided to upgrade to Windows XP. We had no problems installing all the other hardware apart from the old HP scanner, and the AstraPix 430. It says on the box and the manual that it is Xp compatible so I tried about 3 times to install it and everytime getting the message it may not work properly, and it didn't.The software that came with it worked but it would not recognise my camera. After an hour of searching for any info on the net I finally downloaded a XP driver update for the camera and now at last everything is working well.
My advice is if you have XP be aware that you may get the problems I had but you should be fine on other operating systems.
Advantages: Its a multi-purpose digital camera Disadvantages: Ive had a few problems
I bought this camera recently, for the money i payied for it, it was a good buy. I payied £18.99 plus p&p from the website www.savapoint.com. The quality of the pictures that are taken with this camera are very good with three types of sizes, 1600 x 1200 (interpolated), 1280 x 1024 (optical), 640 x 480 (VGA). They all produce amazing quality pictures. The camera has no LCD screen to preview images or videos and has a 16mb internal memory, but does ... ...memory card slot to increase the memory, but I havent needed to use it.
The box includes all the software, USB cables, and drivers plus manual. The manual clearly sets out how to use and install the camera to your computer. It has multiple uses, 4 in 1 - Camera, Video, Dicaphone, and a webcam. Though i do mainly use it as a camera or webcam the extra options are there for use when ever I want to use them.
The problems ive encountered is that the ...

Advantages: size an ease of use for taking pics Disadvantages: Getting the device set up.
Having bought this camera I was of course eager to get down to getting photos into the device then transfer them to my computer. The first part of which was no bother at all, I found the experience of taking the photos to be no problem at all. However when I went to transfer them the problems started. Although I am no PC expert I can usually install devices without much trouble. The instructions given in the manual were quite basic and I encountered ...

The AstraPix 430 has a 1.3 Megapixel (1024 x 1280) resolution, flash, USB 1.1 interface, and a Secure Digtal card slot to extend the memory. But this is not simply digital camera. You can record short video clips or use the camera as a web cam for the Internet. The AstraPix 430 also has an integrated dictaphone. The AstraPix 430 is an ideal digital camera for beginners and price conscious customers. With the 1.3 Megapixel resolution printouts of 13 x 16 cm at 200 dpi are possible. The USB interface offers easy Plug & Play installation.
