Movies on the move! PVR-500

Advantages: Compact, lightweight, good picture, external playback, PAL & NTSC
Disadvantages: Disk can stick when player gets hot

This review is about the Yamada PVR-500 not the PVD-500 as this category suggests. I don't know what the difference is since they look exactly the same and appear to have the same features but just so you know,.... I own the PVR-500. Currently I?m in US waters (dodging hurricanes) and the DVD player on the ship only plays Region 1 (US) DVD?s. Umax Astra 2000P

Advantages: good price
Disadvantages: persistent failure

I don't know if this is the experience of other users, but the parallel port model was nothing but trouble from the start. The problem was always scanner connection. VSaccess used to suddenly and without warning say the scanner was undetectable and that was it. The last problem occurred during a scan - my machine hung whilst it was scanning happily, but following reboot the scanner was permanently undetectable. I now have a 2200 instead, which has worked fine (so far), but did need me to go and buy a scsi card. ...

Umax 3400

Advantages: Simple interface. easy to set up
Disadvantages: flimsy lid

The Umax 3400 is a good solid scanner that is excellent value for money. It is simple to set up with 1 lead connecting to the USB port on your PC and the other to the mains supply. It comes complete with software that allows you to create calendars, posters, business cards etc. It is simple to use with scanning being possible with just the touch of a button. It is possible to copy a document, scan a document to disk or to a web based destination. At £50 you won't find a better beginners scanner. ...
