Manufacturer's product description
The PowerLook 1000 is the ideal low-cost high-resolution scanner. Its fast FireWire/IEEE1394 and USB connections make it the scanner for the designer or photographer with no time to lose. This high-resolution scanner is a must in busy scanning environments. The PowerLook Photo version has been produced to include a copy of SilverFast scanning software. This Photoshop compatible plug-in is extremely powerful for color correction utilizing the Preview image. The bundle includes both Reflective and Transparency color IT8 calibration targets, which are easily applied within the SilverFast software, enabling you to achieve cast-free color results every time. An additional forte of SilverFast is its ability to produce superb results from Negative films. There is a live "sharpening" feature allowing very close monitoring of the scanned image, and extensive color correction utilities. RGB and CMYK output are fully supported.

...The UMAX Astra 2000U, comes in a USB format for the easiest of setups.
Software also came with the package with a nice bundle of Adobe applications for great picture editing.
The scanner is of a good quality, desgined well. I wouldn't say it was fast at scanning, but since this is my first scanner, what do I have to compare???
It scans from simple text, to detailed photos. Also offers a preview text so you can see what your scanned image would look like.
All round good scanner from UMAX, and great value for money. This thing helped me in my GCSEs a LOT!...

Advantages: Excellent value for money Disadvantages: None
...I bought the Umax 2000P from an internet company and am glad I did. I have had it for approximately 8 months and have used it a lot for scanning pictures and photos for my hobby of geneology. It is very easy to use and came with a good batch of graphics software. It produces very good scanned pictures of very high quality. It uses up little space in my little room and was very reasonably priced. It is very compatible with my PC and I find the scanner applications easy to use. I have since recommendd this scanner to two of my friends who were looking to buy a scanner....

Advantages: Cheap and easy to install Disadvantages: Slow if you scanning many documents
...The UMAX Astra 1220P is a parallel port scanner. The scanning quality is good for theprice that you pay but the speed is a little slow. If you only have to scan a few documents at low resolution then this is the scanner for you but if you want to use the scanner on a regular basis you need to invest more money. The software supplied is good although if you are altering photos Adobe Photoshop is better. The scanner also has a pass-through but I recommend that you do not use it, I have a HP 850C and the pass-through does not work....

Iv'e had this cam for 9 months now, and to be quite honest i can't really fault it. The cam has a good resolution (640 x 480) so if you use it on msn messenger, you dont appear really fuzzy to the other person.
