Well it is the best extra money I have ever spent.
I suddenly found myself conencting to all of the ISP's that I couldn't in the past. I was sure it was them, but it was my orginal modem.
I even changed the old modem back to see if it was a lucky day or sometihng, but still had problems with the old modem.
The 3COM modem is the best modem you can buy for a PC.

This modem is not too bad. I installed it without having too many problems. Windows 98 conflicted with my old modem but that is only because I did not uninstall the previous drivers for the old 33k internal modem I used to have. The speed is good and the quality is good. Had some problems being discconected but later found out that this was really my ISP causing me grief. The design is good and price is not too bad. Remember you are paying for quality......3comm products have always had a reputable name in the communication industry. Hense that is why I bought it. ...

The modem is quite simply too expensive for what you're getting. It's a winmodem. Honestly, how good could it possibly be?
The answer to the question is not very. I know you're going to say that's it's just a modem and that it's USR/3COM but that doesn't change the fact that you're payng for name and NOT a good quality modem.
When my system was being thrashed the modem suffered. Example, try running the modem on boot-up while everything else is staryting and you'll get a performance hit. (I'm running an Athlon 600 with 256MB RAM).
The quality also doesn't maintain well over, say, a 3 hour connection to any standard ISP.
Bottom line is that this modem should be retailing for about £60 and not a penny more. ...
