These brushes definately help with gum disease and my dentist actually commented on how good my teeth looked compared to previous visits.
I had one of these toothbrushes for about 18 months and was very impressed with how well it cleaned my teeth. It definately made a sonic sort of vibrating which seemed to clean even better than the previous electric tooth brush I had with a circular head. The fact that the head was 'normal' toothbrush size meant you covered more teeth as you moved the brush along in your mouth. I didn't find the size a problem at the back of my mouth either, it cleaned my very back teeth really well.
The timer was great and let you know when to move from one part of your mouth to the next - the sound changed four times as you did front and back of both bottom and top teeth.
I liked the rather strange looking long handle. It was easy to hold and reach all parts of your mouth . It looked very modern too, sort of streamline and elegant.
I found the charger quite neat, not too large and it didn't take up too much room on the bathroom side. The disadvantage of the elegant long shape is that it has to sit in the charger as it will not stand on its own. I guess you could lie it down.
I found the only down side was that when I went to change the brush head I followed the instructions exactly but unfortunately I managed to break the toothbrush as the head didn't come off as it should and was not repairable. It does warn you to be careful as the head may fly off but that was not what happened to me!! So if you get one or have one I suggest you change the head before the warranty is up in case this happens to you - at least you could send it back.
So in short it was a very good brush that did an excellent job of cleaning teeth but there is a design fault in the head changing mechanism.
Advantages: It works and keeps working! Disadvantages: Difficult head replacement.
...a good'un.
Although the Ultrasonex Phaser was much more expensive than the previous products I had used and discarded, I have actually spent less over the time I have been using it because….. IT STILL WORKS and WORKS WELL!
It cost me about £79 when I bought it but this price has come down to a more reasonable £59.99 in Argos today, £35.00 at Littlewoods and a much more reasonable £29.97 with free delivery from Amazon.co.uk. It's likely that a further ... ...The toothbrush itself is quite long, measuring 27 cms but it's comfortable to hold. Although slightly awkward to use initially (for we souls who are still half asleep in the mornings and go through our morning ablutions on automatic pilot) you very quickly become accustomed to the length and no longer attempt to clean your tonsils. (Joke!).
The instructions provide very useful (and not so useful) information for the electric toothbrush novice. The ...

Advantages: Great cleaning, 2 year guarantee, rechargeable Disadvantages: Not multi-user friendly
The Ultrasonex Phaser toothbrush gives your teeth a great clean. It cleans with ultra sonic vibrations.
Before Christmas 2002 several stores, Boots and Argos, had a half price offer on the Utrasonex making it just under £40. The brush came with a recharger five brush heads and a 2 year guarantee.
After a couple of weeks use your teeth will look and feel cleaner.
The brush handle has a nice design that sits neatly in the hand although it is longer ... ...in the middle of the handle. Once on, it cleans in six bursts of 30 seconds with a pause to remind you not to just leave it on one spot. One thing to point out is that the vibrations go down the handle so your fingers tingle after use. It's possible to use it at two vibration settings, 18,000 vibrations per minute(300Hz) or for sensitive teeth 9,000 vibrations per minute(150Hz).
The brush heads are small and look like the end of a normal toothbrush ...

Advantages: Gets teeth as clean as those trips to the dentist. Disadvantages: Each toothbrush needs its individual charger.
Having lost my front teeth to dentures I resolved to take extra special care of my remaining teeth. Though price determined which sonic toothbrush I purchased in the end (£20 off £59.99 at Boots, plus all those loyalty points). The booklet is quite informative, but only begins to make sense once you start to use the toothbrush (which at first sight looks enormous). I can imagine it being somewhat awkward for those with the smaller mouth, as you need ... ...in front of a mirror so that you can see and do a good job. The ends of the bristles are placed against the gum where it meets the teeth then down over the teeth. The vibrations are actually pleasant. I have a couple of looser teeth and so far they don't seem to be adversely affected. You soon develop a routine for brushing in sections. The pause in the vibrations (every 30 seconds) is really useful so you know it's time you should've moved on to ...

...much.
I chose the Ultrasonex because I hadn't been happy with my two Braun electrics - either the performance or the charging capacity - and didn't particularly trust that their sonic would be any more robust. The Ultrasonex cost me £99, 18 months ago, from Pharmacy2U (online shop). Within a month of using it, my condition was completely turned around. I am amazed to be able to report that I have, since, had no bleeding, no inflammation, no fear ... ...staining. I have bought replacement heads from Amazon.co.uk for £9.99 for 3. The brush takes some getting used to, but I found the instructions to be precise and easy to follow. I've also found that the gentle action prevents further gum damage which, in common with many people with bleeding (according to my old hygienist), I used to inflict by over-zealous manual brushing.
I have no complaints about the charging capacity or the charger itself; ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: A bit large
...harsh new bristles. With the Ultrasonex the brush does most of the work for you. It applies the correct amount of pressure (so no more scrubbed gums), and because of the sonic action your teeth feel (and look) much cleaner and smoother. All you have to do is move the brush along your teeth and gumline (back and front) and if you stay in one area too long the brush head temporarily stops to let you know that that area is done. I bought my Ultrasonex ... ...it was definitely money well spent. The brush heads are quite pricey but I would probably spend that amount on conventional toothbrushes anyway because they wear out faster. They are probably better for the environment as well because of the small amount of plastic you are disposing of as opposed to a whole conventional toothbrush. ...
