Just not the Real McCoy
Advantages quick, filling, easy
Disadvantages not that great tasting, fairly expensive
Okay, so you've made the curry, the takeaway is closed and theres nothing left in the cupboard, who you gonna call? Nobody is the answer to that question, because that would be stupid.
Uncle ben's express rice on the other hand is the solution. It is very easy to make; taking only a couple of minutes and the only equipment you need is a microwave. In addition, it is filling and quite tasty. There's a large range to choose from as well, from egg fried rice to plain old no nonsense basmati.
On the downside the flavours aren't that great and taste far from the real thing, although a decent attempt is made; you're not going to be fooling nayone into thinking that you've spent all afternoon slaving over a hot stove. My other major quiff is the textures: it just doesn't feel like rice, the grains just turn to mush if you try to squash them: and they have a tendency to clog together inside the packet in one big formidable lump. Finally, at about £1-2 a packet, the real McCoy would be cheap as well.
So to conclude, this is great if you're hungry, lazy or simply haven't got the time or culinary expertise, but its not like the real thing, and if you're looking to impress, I recommend you get the real deal. Saying that I must add that Uncle Ben's is probably the best microwavable rice on the market, so its the best of a mediocre bunch.
