University of Manchester
Review of Manchester University by amy_pea

Advantages: Great city, excellent university, lots of accommodation in halls and private sector. Cheap public transport.
Disadvantages: French dept not great, rains a lot, eating on campus is expensive & there aren't enough eateries.

...nights! Shopping in Manchester is brilliant and there really is something for everyone - trendy boutiques, big department stores and little indie shops and markets. The city of Manchester itself is amazing - it is developing really fast at the moment so now is an exciting time to be living in the city. Looking at the skyline of Manchester you can see loads of cranes, especially with the biggest residential building in England (Europe?) being built ...
...and French Law and love my course. I have 12 timetabled hours a week and prob do about 15 hours homework on a week when I'm working hard. The law dept is great and the teaching is usually excellent - you really feel like youre being taught by experts. Many of the lecturers have written books and articles and work as governmental advisors and similar things. Everyone is friendly and helpful and I settled in really easily. The french dept is a bit ... Read review

Think carefully before coming here
Review of Cambridge University by janesmith123476

Advantages: CV
Disadvantages: Boredom, stress, town, over work, lack of social life, unhappiness!!

I personally am not Cambridge's biggest fan. I am in second year and would not choose this university again. Think carefully before you apply. I went to a comprehensive and am from London and don't really fit in here!! What's wrong with it: *Course - I do medicine and the course is basically natural sciences - there is very little clinical and an awful lot of what we have to learn is totally irrelevant *Colleges - if you like your college then ...
...very neeky or very rich - if you are neither of these then beware!! I am middle class but frequently get called a chav! *Pastoral system - better hope you don't have any problems whilst here - the pastoral system is crap - counselling service had a massive waiting list and trying to sort things out can be like banging your head aganst a brick wall *Town - tiny and dead. It's nice for a day trip but not to live here for 3 years. If you like clubbing ... Read review

Whippin' Piccadilly
Review of Manchester Metropolitan University by Tadders

Advantages: Too many to count!
Disadvantages: Rainy weather, a few dodgy surrounding areas

...fun. Eventually he settled on Manchester University and, whilst I didn't want to do the English degree there, I found that I did want to do the course offered at Manchester Metropolitan University, which was very nearby. I also thought the people there would be a bit more fun. There's a time for work, but there's also a time for play and I was afraid I'd be surrounded by horrifically intelligent people and seem a bit dense in comparison! I'll admit ...
...I liked the idea of Manchester because it was close enough to where my parents lived if I ever wanted to go home and far enough away so I could gain some well needed independence and experience. I learned a great deal whilst I was studying (both in terms of education and life!) and met some fabulous people including my fiance, so it was obviously a good choice for me! Nearly all of my university friends have stayed in the city and have bought houses ... Read review
