Advantages Advantages Good location, excellent cheap cake shop near by!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor communication between staff and students. Lack of equipment.

**** Update**** It has been one year since I graduated from UCE. One of my friends is still studying an engineering course there; apparently it hasn’t improved at all. NOTE: The engineering department is moving from its Perry Barr location to Birmingham city centre in time for the new semester. This new location is known as Millennium Point. My friend will be attending this new location so I will keep you informed whether or not the department has improved! **** End update**** I graduated from U.C.E. June 2000. I have a HND in Engineering (Electronics). However I had to wait until Feb ... more

    Advantages Advantages good location

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor admin, too many students not enough staff, bad feelings from staff to students

Having spent 3 years at the University of Central England I feel I must tell others about this place. In a good location 3 miles from Birmingham city centre, this is about the only good thing going for the university. The students are spread all over the city, so there is no "student community" feeling to the place. The student's union is almost non-existent, doing very little for the actual students. What they do do appears to be very much for themselves, not for the good of the student body. There is a limited library on site which I found under-orders its books, resulting in most essential ... more

Advantages Advantages Some very good lecturer's, so many courses

Disadvantages Disadvantages look at the league tables

I am currently a student at the university of Central England. And I have to say it is sad what I have seen. The university is no good, who's to blame the Lecturer's ar the students. In my opinion BOTH. So many students waste the time of lecturer's and the lecturer's are not tough enough on the students. Onething that I have noticed in this uni, there is no discipline. In the engineering faculty the courses look to nice in the proppectus, they look so interesting. I honestly believe that that nearly all the engineering courses offered at this uni are top. BUT, the standard and level of ... more

Advantages Advantages Are often willing to listen to concerns and problems of students.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Situated in a deprived area.

The department of Education is well funded and often open to most people wanting to study there. On the rare occasions I have had a problem, the members of staff have always done there best to help sort it out, whether it has concerned the uni or not. At one point a lecturer actually gave me her home number and mobile to resolve a situation! The uni try to find school placements around where you live, which is very useful if you are thinking about commuting to the university. I commute to university from a local city, and have never had a problem getting there or home. The Education courses ... more
