Advantages Advantages Nice, modern uni in a nice area

Disadvantages Disadvantages ...errm... none spring to mind

I am a 21 year old at the end of my first year at UCLAN and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. I had offers from other universities, but after attending 2 open days, I decided UCLAN was the place for me. UCLAN is an ex-polytechinic, but don't let that put you off - ex polys don't have the bad reputation they did when they first made the switch, and UCLAN scores very highly on the inspection scores. I am studying a Combined Honours course in Japanese and Business Studies; as I remember, Combined Honours is the most popular degree course in the university (25,000 students in the uni, 7th largest in ... more

Advantages Advantages Close to town, getting a new union

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some courses aren't great

I'm now in my second year here at the University of Central Lancashire studying Journalism, one of the uni's best courses. UCLAN was the only uni I applied to, because I knew it was the best in the country for my course. I received quite a high offer for Journalism so I applied for combined honours Journalism and Football and Society as my insurance choice in case I didn't get onto single honours. On the morning of A Level results day, a UCLAN welcome pack popped through my letterbox welcoming me onto single honours Journalism! When I got to school to pick up my results everyone was so scared ... more

Advantages Advantages Good university in the north

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small campus and small city

Okay, so it's that time of year again when new students are eagerly anticipating starting university and making next step towards adulthood, it's a daunting time, many students haven't lived on their own for the first time, are going to places of the country that they've never lived in before and will meet people who will become friends for life. This was something similar to my experience at the University of Central Lancashire (or UCLan for short). So what's UCLan all about? Location: UCLan is situated in the city of Preston, Lancashire. It's an hour or so by train from Manchester and quite ... more

Advantages Advantages Wide range of courses, great campus

Disadvantages Disadvantages Preston's pubs may be too much of a distraction from your studies because they're so close!

Having spent three brilliant years as a student at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), I can recommend it as a great place to study on the basis of the courses it offers, its student accommodation, its campus and the night life in Preston, the town where the UCLAN is based. Firstly, the UCLAN campus is the complete opposite of the ‘concrete jungles’ campuses of many other universities. It’s really open and spread out, which means that you don’t feel like you’re trapped in a maze of buildings which look exactly the same. Also, you may find that, conveniently, there is a pub which you ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap cheap prices

    Disadvantages Disadvantages its wet

I am currently on the second year of my Web and Multimedia course. So far I have enjoyed all most every second of my time in Preston. Not the biggest town in the country but there is definatly a lot to do on a night out. There seem to be a countless number of pubs catering for students, we seem to find a new one every week. Favourites include the Ship Inn, because its practically on the campus and Roper Hall. The students union is amazing and there seems to be something going on every night in there. Events range from feel for all you club heads to the rock and thrash night for all the metal ... more
