I’ve played this game with young and old and even stayed up into the early hours of the morning and had great fun. I love playing games and it is my personal opinion that this IS the best game… EVER. I was actually only introduced to it some six years ago and since then have had lots of fun playing it. Forget Uno Extreme and other battery operated versions of the game; they can be fun with large amounts of people but not so much as the traditional cheaper basic card game. I’ve played this game with young and old and even stayed up into the early hours of the morning and had great fun. It’s also an essential item in our suitcase for going on holiday as it hardly takes up any room at all.
~~~BASIC INTRODUCTION~~~
The makers, Mattel, claims that it is the world’s no. 1 family card game. It is for 2 to 10 players over the age of 7. It is a game that is mainly ruled by luck with some tactics thrown in for good measure. There are various ways to play and I intend to explain the main rules and then go on to suggest other rules you may incorporate to make the game even more fun. Many people play it differently; it’s up to you to adopt or ignore extra rules.
~~~THE AIM OF THE GAME~~~
The aim of each round is to get rid of all your cards before anyone else. The winner is the first person to reach 500 points.
~~~DIFFERENT CARDS~~~
The pack comes with 108 cards. I will list the types of cards and any actions the person after your turn would have to make to some moves. The main cards come in four colours: blue, green, red and yellow.
For each colour you get:
cards numbered 0 to 9; +2 cards (where the next person has to pick up 2 cards from the centre pile); Reverse Cards (where the direction of playing is changed) Skip Cards (the next person misses a go)
You also get some wild cards. These have black backgrounds with the four colours of the other cards on. There are two types:
Wild Cards (where you can choose another colour to play) Wild +4 Cards (where you can choose another colour to play and have the next person pick up 4 cards from the pack)
~~~MAIN INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PLAY~~~
The instructions are based on three or more players, I will explain later on how to play with just two players.
Each person is dealt 7 cards from the shuffled pack (often easier to shuffle the pack in to halves if you’ve got small hands like me) and the left over cards are faced downwards in the centre of the table. The first player is the one to the left of the dealer and you take it in turns to deal. The first card from the centre pile is turned over and the first person is required to play on that.
Basically, the main rule is that with the coloured cards you sort of play snap. For example if you have a red 8 card, you can either put any other red card down or any other 8 down.
The ‘proper’ rules require that if the person before you put a +2 down of any colour, you are required to pick up two cards and then the person after you carries on, either by putting another +2 card down (snap) or another card of that colour.
If the reverse card is played, the person who put the card down before you takes another go and it continues in that direction, i.e. if you were going clockwise, you then go anti-clockwise.
The skip card is played like in any other game.
The wild card can be played to change the colour anytime, after you place it down, the person next to you must match the card with another wild card if they do not want to play the colour you asked for.
The wild +4 card can ONLY be played if you are unable to play any other card in your hand.
If you are unable to play any cards in your hand, you must pick up a card.
If you’ve just put you’re second to last card down and are just left with one in you’re hand, you MUST shout out “UNO” before anyone catches you out. If they do, you have to pick up 2 cards.
~~~PLAYING WITH JUST TWO PLAYERS~~~
It’s pretty much the same as above although the reverse card is played as a skip card as well. It is a very different game with just two players and doesn’t require as much tactics but it’s still great fun.
~~~SCORING~~~
At the end of each round, the person who has no cards left collects the points from everyone else’s hand. Cards are scored as follows:
0-9 coloured cards are worth the face value (0 is worth nothing) Both wild cards are worth 50 points each Other ‘action’ coloured cards are worth 20 point each
~~~TIPS FOR PLAYING~~~
A round table is great if you have a lot of players. Don’t be too kind to ‘older’ players who haven’t played before, I’ve been caught out a few times by being too nice, after all, they were brought up with card games!!! It’s often a good idea for ‘newies’ to have a practice round, then you don’t feel obliged to let them away with things. You can easily start a game and finish it off another day at the end of a round although I rarely have the willpower to do so. Decide on the rules before you play and stick to them.
~~~OPTIONAL RULES~~~
If someone puts a wrong card down on the pack or wrongly accuses someone of something, they pick up 2 cards.
If you cannot go and pick up a card, which you can then use, you can as long as the next person hasn’t played. (This is great fun but often ends up in bending cards with violence!)
You can accumulate +2 cards, e.g. if you are required to pick up two cards yet have a +2 card as well, you can place that down so the next person picks up 4 cards, e.t.c.
As above, but with the +4 wild cards. It’s hysterical if someone has to end up picking up 16 cards.
If you have more than one card with the same number value and colour, you can put them down at the same time, e.g. 2x red number 5’s.
There are also other games you can play which you will find on the instructions of your Uno pack.
~~~WHERE CAN YOU PURCHASE IT?~~~
Most toy shops. It comes in many different forms now and they have special editions such as the Simpsons, Shrek 2, Muppets, Spiderman. It cost just £5.90 from Amazon and £8+ for the limited edition ones.
Advantages: A great fun family game Disadvantages: None
...I had a pack of Uno cards still sealed from last year. I'd bought a new pack for holiday after having played the game as a child and remembering how much fun we used to have playing it. The cards went all that way and got forgotten about in the bottom of my suitcase though. So until recently it was shoved in a corner in my room. I'm so glad that I opened it though as it's given us hours of fun.
So what is Uno?
Uno is a simple card game, which can ... ...games to grasp the rules. Uno states that those aged 7 and above should be able to play this game. I would have first played it when I was around 10 and I never had any trouble with the rules. What I like is you can play with as few as 2 players or even up to 10 people. I've played mostly with one other person or two people and the games can vary length all depending on what cards are dealt and also on depending on how skilful the players are at ...
...event that I keep my Uno cards for. Bored minds with nothing to do can be tiresome, and these cards work wonders, both in this situation or in a situation of boredom like travel. Often I travel on the ferry between the UK and France with a pack of Uno cards in my bag, because there will always be someone that wants to kill time, and being occupied and having fun is a far better way to pass time than to sit bored out of your brain, watching the clock.
... ...As for the deluxe set, Uno Extreme, this is an expensive option and totally unnecessary at 14.99 GBP. The Care bear and Spiderman Uno cards make a good present, although I would suggest here, that although they are packed in a metal carrying case, I would imagine that many children would outgrow the themes, whereas the standard cards at 3.38 GBP are the most sensible option all round, giving you a game that doesn't get dated or babyish.
Would I ...
Uno is a basic card game using the same principle as the game Whot did back in my day. The pack consists of four different colours, red, green, blue and yellow, each containing a number, nought through to nine.
The idea of the game is to be the first to get rid of all your cards to be declared ... ...variations of rules played with Uno cards, but the most common is with seven cards being dealt at the beginning of the game. We also include the rule of having to shout "Uno" when you only have one card left, otherwise you have to pick up two cards from the pile if anyone notices. It's always worth getting the ground rules sorted before you play especially with a new bunch of people as if someone has played before with different people, the ability ...
Advantages: Loads of fun, take it with you everywhere & play it with everyone!! Disadvantages: Absolutely none, you won't get bored of this one!
This is by far, my favourite card game, ever! It really brings people together, no matter how little you know of each other you can still enjoy this game. The more people you can get to play this one, the better. Its not really for pairing up though (we tried once & it just doesn't work), so the maximum number of players is the maximum. == UNO ORIGINAL ==
It's November folks!!! It really is time to start thinking of Christmas. With that in mind I thought I would do a review on this much underated game,a game that has been going for years. A game that won't break the bank. A game that makes a super stocking filler. === U N O ===
Uno was originally developed in 1971 by Merle Robbins. It is now a Mattel product. This game could easily be one of the world's most loved card games. ... ...also must remember to call UNO out loud when you get down to having one card in your hand. If you fail to do so, and another player catches you holding one card they can call you on it and then you must draw 2 additional cards. This can be quite annoying if you are competing with another person that has 1 card in their hand and has called UNO. You now have less of a chance of winning the game. === ENDING THE GAME ===
It's simple. Once a player has ...
Advantages: Great game for children and adults. Disadvantages: None
As a family we have played the traditional Uno card game for years. A couple of Christmas's ago my son who was 9 at the time put Uno Extreme on his Christmas list. I couldn't see the point of buying this as I thought the ordinary game was good enough. His Christmas list however was shown to various family members as usual.
Father Christmas kindly left my son this much wanted game on Christmas morning and Father Christmas was also on the ball enough to leave 3xC batteries as well (he is a clever fellow isn't he?). That afternoon the batteries were put in the bottom compartment which was easy and opened with a screwdriver so little fingers couldn't mess with them. The game is presented with a pack of cards and a red and purple plastic machine with a button on the front. The playing cards are stored inside when not playing and there ...
Advantages: Great fun, surprises everytime Disadvantages: small children can also get unlucky games!
Most people have heard of Uno, the card game where you sit around a pile and put cards down?well even if you haven't, it is your average card game which will get boring after a while. So here comes the Uno Extreme, which will surprise you no matter how many times you play it there's always another twist.
This product is produced by Mattel which is a trustworthy company who have provided many toys for children over the years. This game is no exception as it is enjoyable and fun. They recommend the game for children over the age of seven but it is a simple game which can easily be picked up. I have often played with m y five year old cousin who really enjoys the game and understands the game perfectly.
Well what can I say about this game and how much it has evolved to become so much more exciting and fun. It cuts out the boredom you would experience playing normally by expanding the rules a little. I got this for my Christmas this year and even I was thinking I'm too old for this, but as I continued to play me actually realised I really loved this game. Please note you will need 3 "c" batteries to play this game, so do not forget!
This game is relatively cheap about £10-£15 in good game shops. The best shop is probably Woolworths or WH Smith.
First of all you think its going to hurt me throwing cards at me. Do not worry the Uno game is made to only fire the cards down the way so the only part of your body it would hit would be your hands so you are able to just pick them up easily with no fuss.
Another question you might ...
