Urban Outfitters did something dangerous for my wallet. They opened up an Edinburgh store just 15 minutes away from my student flat. My first encounter with this store was a year ago in Glasgow when it required the utmost willpower just to drag myself away from one big spending spree at this shop where I was able to limit myself to buying no more than a pretty purple dress. I am a bit ashamed that my recent trip to the newly opened Edinburgh store was ever so slightly more indulgent and a little bit more ashamed that it came off my mum's debit card (Early Christmas present - I didn't really want anything for Christmas this year).
I am a bit fussy when it comes to fashion - In other words, I tend to hate it. My fashion sense generally doesn't change much. So some years will by my year for fashion, others not so much. This year just happens to be one of those years. I've had quite enough with boring beiges and pastel colours or Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham-esque designs and quite frankly, designs that just don't suit the curves of my figure. Ok, so some of the fashion isn't that bad. However, it didn't have me jumping up and down with excitement...

'*~Quirky women's fashion~*
Urban Outfitters contains an eclectic collection of clothes, unique and different to most high street fashion. There seems to be a very conscious effort on their behalf to be different and it's the sort of stuff you expect to see art students to trounce about in. But I must say that I rather like it. I bought three beautiful skirts - two casual skirts and a party one. All three cinch in at the waist and have beautiful colours and patterns. I particularly love my cosy patterned sweater skirt, perfect for winter. I also particularly love my new wallet. It's a pretty patterned thing with a turquoise background (see pictures). I'm looking forward to wearing them all soon.
*~The monetary setback~*
It was a joy to find there were so many clothing items I like but such a shame to see the price tag. Even with their 10% student discount it was still rather pricey. Bohemian fashion it may be but the impoverished poet or artist may wish to look elsewhere. I doubt I'll be able to afford purchasing stuff here more than once a year. For example, each skirt I bought was between between £30 to £42. And can I ask, why is Urban Outfitters so much cheaper in the USA?! Not just marginally cheaper but more affordable to a huge extent. This is definitely not fair. Possibly a symptom of rip-off Britain? However, if we look past the difference in price across the Atlantic, the clothing does seem to be of rather high-quality material. It is also nice to get access to quirky fashion that I usually expect of extortionate boutique and designer shops. The doormen and shop assistants of Harvey Nichols may look down their nose at me like they did Vivanne in Pretty Woman but there's nobody looking down at me in this shop (Or at least I hope not). Urban Outfitters do stock some very pricey items for the high-end shopper but they do have many items that are available to those with a more humble budget. Although those with a more humble budget may wish to save up a little before splurging their hard-earned cash here.
*~More than just women's fashion~*
It's not just women's clothes that Urban Outfitters stocks. They also have men's fashion and a range of boutique and novelty items. A lot of their home and gift items are absolutely fantastic but, unless they were exclusive to the store, I'd probably end up taking note of them and buying them elsewhere rather than buying them here. Like the clothes, this shop comes with a bit of a price setback. It's just a bit of a laugh when the 'cheap and cheerful' gifts and home section of their website lists items that are largely no less than £5.
*~Customer Service~*
I had a terrific experience with customer service. The girl manning the changing rooms was very polite and pleasant despite my mum's persistent calls for her to offer a third opinion on my outfits. And one of the store staff were even lovely enough to get me the one last red sweater skirt off of one of the manniquins without any complaint. I was very pleased. Thank you to the Edinburgh store staff :)
*~Website~*
Urban Outfitters do have a website but it disappointed me a little. On the same day I bought them, all three skirts and the wallet that I bought were not available to view and buy on the website (I was attempting to send the links to my friends to let them see what I bought). It seems that the website has a smaller range of stock than the physical store itself. I always thought this should be the other way about. I'd therefore recommend you go check out the actual stores rather than the website. In addition to this, you can't order in items into the store via the website like some shops. I therefore don't rate the website that highly.
*~So Save Up Your Pennies~*
All in all, this is a great mid-range shop for those who love interesting fashion. If you're suffering from the recession, however, I'd give it a miss. This is a great shop but definitely not for those who are strapped for cash. I'd give the store 5 stars but it's just torturous to enter a store like that with such prices.
Advantages: new trends, great range, friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: some pricey items
...magazines them mentioning the shop Urban Outfitters but I noticed it was only a London shop so it wasn't really something I was interested in. I then had a look on their US website and loved the looks of their clothes. So many unusual but nice things so I had a look on the store locator. I was shocked to find that Glasgow had a shop, so I got in my car and went for a drive, it took 40 minutes to get there. I was walking up Buchanan Street then in ... ...When you walk into an Urban Outfitters shop the first thing you get is the sense of fun, excitement and a whole new shop type. They are nicely decorated inside. Usually on the first floor it is full of home wares so there are photo frames, jewellery, candle stick holders, everything possible to decorate your house. There are also some clothes on their first floors but it is not usually full of a lot. Their stores are always built on many floors to ...

...). Having said all that, Urban Outfitters has to be one of my favorite shops.
As ImogenW says in her opinion on this shop, Urban Outfitters used to be a purely American - more exactly Manhatten - thing. Don't think Sex and the City New York stylee, think SoHo and Village mix. The shop there is a strictly whole block affair, where you check your bag in when you walk through the doors, maybe because they have a problem with shoplifting or on a brighter ... ...now, but, well... )
Urban Outfitters in London though, is a slightly different kettle of fish. Smaller, crisper and seemingly more organised, Urban Outfitters can be found opposite what used to be the Kensington Market near L'Occitane and Shelleys. Walk through the doors, no bag check. No massive bouncer type guard at the door. Instead of crisscrossed rows packed with every size and colour imaginable to man kind, clothes are lined ( not exactly ...

Advantages: the sale section, the variety, the fact that I always get complimented on my clothes or accessories by the shop staff there and if you really want to 'in' then this is a one-stop shop for being trendy. Disadvantages: The price of everything that isn't in the sale section
Like everyone, i first encountered Urban Outfitters on a trip to New York and, being on a student budget but obsessed with owning pretty things, it seemed perfect. When i came back an american girl in my hall told me about the on in High street Kensington and i rushed down there. Only to be sorely disappointed. What I had loved about the store in NY - the femininity of the clothes, the reasonable prices, the madcap accessories and the to-die-for ... ...not only is most of Urban Outfitters ridiculously overpriced for what it is, but it is also way out of my budget. It does, however, have three magically redeeming features:
one: working out which designer ripoffs to buy. The way i do this is by taking a wander around H+M when I get off at high Street kensington tube, then going to Urban Outfitters. You'll be surprised at how many things you'll see for triple the price but no noticeable difference. ...

Advantages: Different, great range, can get some bargains in the sales! Disadvantages: slow delivery, a bit pricey
I first heared of Urban Outfitters years ago, before it was over in the UK. It was always mentioned in magazines as an a store you had to go to if You were in America. I once nearly got the chance about 10 years ago to go in one when I was in my parents in Florida, we drove past one in Miami but my dad wouldn't let me do any shopping!
The years passed by and I had kind of forgotten about the store until there was a bow clip in a magazine, I noticed ... ...that clip. The site is well set out with all their gear so I ordered the clip along with a load of other stuff. I do sometimes shop at the store in Manchester but browsing online is so much easier for me. The clothes are great, there are so many unique things. It's a bit more daring than other shops but the quality of the clothes are great. You can always find something exciting there the jewellery is spectacular.
It is pricey though and i'm not ...

UrbanOutfitters.co.uk, an american urban chic style in a London based website, what more could you ask for?
The style used on UO is very quirky yet still chic and stylish too. Not recommended for all you Plain Janes out there. Most of the clothing - I'm talking about the women's clothing when I say this) - is very loose and baggy, but that doesn't mean it's unflattering, you just have to wear it right with the right accessories.

Advantages: Large range of clothes, stock changes often, original and unique items Disadvantages: Prices your mother wouldn't approve of!
would imagine you've picked up from a second hand store (just don't let her see the *real* price!).
The range is decent and they tend to cater for most 'average' size men. If you are of a smaller or larger build, you may have difficulty in finding something that's right for you.
If you're a regular to Floral Street in Covent Garden and tire of going from shop to shop, UrbanOutfitters bring most of these stores under one roof. This convenience may come at a slight premium where prices are concerned.
I have always found the staff helpful when either using the changing rooms or making a purchase. However, they do come across as quite unapproachable and will not pester you while you're in the store unless you actually ask for their help. The opportunity to shop without someone asking me if "everything is ok, sir" is something I really ...
