About me :
Pro Good quality books, many with novelty factors, which my child loves
Cons The catalogue doesn't do the books justice as you can't see inside them
very helpful
Variety on offer
Purchase obligations

Usborne books can be found in many outlets these days, as well as just via the "house party" route. You will find them in many smaller locations such as childrens farms and local shops. This is a great way to buy them, because you can pick them up and browse through them to establish the suitability for your child. I have bought many of my Usborne books through this route, rather than via the representatives that run parties / leave catalogues for you to browse through.

It is also fine if the party representative happens to have a copy of the book you are interested in, for you to view.

However, their catalogue (which some reps just distribute) really does them no favours and can, on occasion be misleading. The age groups stated in the brochure don't always tie up with the product when it arrives and it is useless for seeing how many pieces the jigsaw books have etc.

There is no difference in price etc between the two routes and no incentive for the customer to buy through either route (although hosts of in-home parties do get a "cut" of the takings).

The books vary in price, but start at around £5. Some of them are a little on the pricey side, when compared to equivalent books from other publishers. All books are of good quality, printed on good paper and have excellent illustrations.

The majority of the books that I have bought from Usborne have become firm favourites of my 2 year old son and anything that can foster a love of literature has to be a great thing! When younger, he particularly enjoyed Baby's Bedtime; when going through potty training the potty book was a great way to make it fun for him and he still loves "Whose Making That Noise". For slightly older children they do great books about learning words and for older children still they have really fun "reference" books about a wide variety of subjects from biology to science to geography etc

For those of you out there looking to earn a few extra pounds, you can also start up your own business acting as a distributor for Usborne. I may well give it a try myself!

NB Usborne Books cover the whole childrens age range, but only sell their own educational books. All the literature is relatively new & I don't remember any of the stories from my own childhood - but children can easily relate to them. This isn't the club for you if you are looking for a bargain copy of the latest best seller.

They produce a good range of quality books - shame they can't produce a catalogue that does them justice. Maureen
