The following is based on my own experience.
I bought a Vax U91-P2Power2 Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner end of August 2009. It is now in the back of my cupboard collecting dust. No pun intended!!!
When I first used the product, it was good - couldn't fault it. However, when I tried to use it the second time, it wouldn't pick up dust. Off I went to Curries to complain about the problem. They carried out a basic floor test, ie tried to clean a small floor area in the store to see what the fault was. After the basic test, they could see that the cleaner was not picking up dust. They said the filter was blocked hence no pick up and that the filter needed cleaning.
I said, ?to save me driving all the way home, can I purchase a spare filter in store to replace the one inside the cleaner ? that way you can test it again ...
Advantages: It cleans well, good suction Disadvantages: doesn't sit on the stairs! It has bags
slightly more high spec models, the 6130s and the 6130sx.
These have the advantage of not being orange! They have variable power, a turbo brush and an upholstery-washing tool. The sx also has a special stair hose. That said SX by the way!!I did not miss a letter!!
I have been content with the basic model!
Vax have a comprehensive website at www.vax.co.uk which is worth a look if you are keen on one of these.There is even an area with tips on stain removal- very handy!

Advantages: A great cleaner with no unwanted frills. Disadvantages: None so far.
any other Hoover, and definitely not as noisy as our old Aqua Vac. I must say that it had excellent suction power and cleaned our carpet extremely well. So instead of having lots of tools and gismos, I felt that we had bought a quality machine that reached well into the corners.
Another thing I liked about this machine was that unlike the Hoover, it would stay upright if the extension hose was used and after use it wrapped around the hose guides very neatly.
Specs
The machine has a 1900 watt motor, is bagless and has a dust capacity of 2.4 litres, which is quite adequate. There is a filter in the dust container that the manufacturer advises should be replaced every 12 months, which is available from Vax for around £20, but I would imagine could be found cheaper from somewhere like espares.co.uk.
